POSITION SUMMARY
Psychiatric Physician Faculty is an educational, medical and administrative position with responsibility for provision and quality of patient care, and teaching and supervision of physicians participating in the residency programs with The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education. This role is an academic appointment to not only to teach Psychiatry residents, Family Medicine Residents, Geriatric Fellows as well as interprofessional students ie PAs, NPs, LCSWs, LPCs, Certified Recovery Specialists, Case Managers, Community Health Workers and medical students inclusive of ATSU SOMA.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & FUNCTIONS
- Be a resource for the primary care physicians and the integration of behavioral health into primary care.
- Serve as a collaborative physician for psychiatric nurse practitioners and others.
- Attend administrative and clinic meetings and provide in-service education as appropriate.
- Assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process or orientation of new staff when requested.
- Provide a full range of psychiatric services to assigned patients including assessment, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and determining the degree of disabilities in patients.
- Prescribe medication to patients as deemed necessary and conduct medication management.
- Document all services in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Analyze and evaluate patient data and test findings to diagnose the nature and extent of mental disorder.
- Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
- Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.
- Examine or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder.
- Participate in treatment team activities, including the development and periodic review of patient treatment plans.
- Ensure all peer review audits are completed in a timely fashion as requested.
- Timely completion of patient records in accordance with the organization’s Open Document Policy.
- Contact care companies, support services, and other involved agencies as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, clinic huddles, and other meetings as necessary.
- Maintain, update, and sign medication notes and medication log sheets, ensuring to provide psychopharmacological education to all patients.
- Review and sign the CBE (part one) completed by the Mental Health Therapist to ensure accuracy and congruence of information gathered in the evaluation.
- Model collaborative practice by fostering a culture of trust, respect, and fairness to all stakeholders and clinical staff.
- Provide forty (40) hours of service per week, including thirty-two (32) hours of direct patient care per week (75 visits per week).
- Ensure that Behavioral Health on-call rotation is developed and maintained.
- Participate in behavioral health on-call rotation, which may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.
- Develop evidence-based clinical standard operating procedures.
- Uphold federal and state mental health regulations.
- Complete required peer reviews or other audits within required time frames.
- Demonstrate compliance and highest integrity with industry-recognized billing practices.
- Achieve and maintain Board certification, CMES, ACLS/BLS certification.
- May require participation in call rotation in the future.
- All other duties as assigned.
PSYCHIATRY RESIDENCY CORE FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Precept residents in outpatient and inpatient settings as necessary.
- Lead 8-10 resident didactic conferences per academic year; leading noon conferences counts as two conferences.
- Be a role model of professionalism.
- Demonstrate commitment to delivery of safe, quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in the education of residents.
- Devote sufficient time to the educational program to fulfill supervisory and teaching responsibilities.
- Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating all learners such as residents, medical students, interns, etc.
- Regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences.
- Pursue faculty development designed to enhance skills at least annually in various domains.
- Participate in annual program evaluation.
- Participate in curriculum development as requested.
- Participate in scholarly activity and assist program with the demonstration of accomplishments in at least three (3) of the specified domains.
- Assist with monitoring resident stress to identify mental or emotional conditions that inhibit performance and/or learning.
- Complete annual ACGME faculty survey.
- Directly observe, evaluate, and provide timely feedback on resident performance during each rotation.
- Timely completion of resident evaluations documented using MyEvaluations.
- Actively participate in Clinical Competency Committee meetings.
- Actively participate in resident interviews as requested.
- Participate in resident orientation and graduation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MD/DO Degree.
- Graduate Medical Education in an ACGME Accredited Psychiatric Residency Program.
- Current certification by the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
- DEA Certification.
- BLS and ACLS Certification.
- No history of professional misconduct, as documented by National Data Bank, Child Abuse, and Criminal History clearances.
- Valid physician license for the State of Pennsylvania.
- Previous leadership/administrative experience required.
- Willingness to combine administrative/teaching and patient care responsibilities.
- Strong administrative and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills to manage relationships with colleagues, patients, and their families.
- Emotional resilience, calm temperament, and ability to work well under pressure.
- Teamwork and capacity to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Outstanding organizational ability and effective decision-making skills.
- First-class time and resource management for the benefit of patients.
- Previous participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program or graduate medical education administrative experience is highly desired.
- Recent scholarly activity such as peer-reviewed funding, publication of original research or review articles in peer-reviewed journals, or participation in national committees is highly desired.
- Valid driver’s license.
