Summary
The Internal Medicine Physician provides medical services for the patients of the Health Center including performing other duties in accordance with funding agency requirements, contractual agreements, adhering to policies and procedures, and protocols established by the Health Center. The Internal Medicine Physician is a member of the clinical practice team and works collaboratively with other team members in providing patient care. As part of the team-based approach to care, the Internal Medicine Physician will participate in coordinating care for individual patients, will support patients and families in self-management, through evidenced-based approaches as may be appropriate, will engage in health center projects that are aimed at specific patient population needs, and will utilize effective and appropriate communication strategies, such as health literacy approaches when working with patients.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Adhering to the established preventative health standards according to Practice Standards, manage and maintain a program of comprehensive health for assigned patients to include preventive medicine, chronic disease management, and community health. Provide supportive and definitive care to patients with primary care appropriate medical conditions, based on documented and demonstrated proficiency.
- Prepares and reviews medical histories and obtains data through interviews. Examines patients, formulates diagnostic plans, defines and orders required diagnostic testing. Interprets examination findings and test results, and implements treatment plans.
- Provide medical care to patients with acute medical problems, chronic illness, or requesting preventive health services. Evaluates, diagnoses, treats and makes appropriate use of diagnostic testing and consultation.
- Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists. Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability.
- Prescribes and assesses effectiveness of pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regimens as appropriate for patient medical conditions.
- Meet or exceed the Health Center’s annual productivity goal specified within the Physician Contract. Maintain an assigned schedule necessary to meet or exceed the Center’s annual minimum expected patient expectations.
Administrative:
- Maintain and update Electronic Health Records (EHS) in a systematic format and complete required documentation within the specified amount of time expected by the assigned manager/director. Ensure that client records are kept confidential consistent with Health Center policies and procedures, Joint Commission, and HIPAA standards. Monitors HIPAA compliance within the work environment.
Call:
- Participate in After Hours Call and Hospital Coverage on a rotating basis according to the schedule assigned by the Medical Director.

- Develop proficiency in the use of the Electronic Health Record.
- Maintain contact with all departments at the Health Center for the purposes of coordinating and supporting ongoing health and nutrition education programs.
- Using specialist equipment for diagnosis and testing.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited medical school (M.D., or D.O.).
- MA Board of Registration to practice medicine.
- Completion of an Internal Medicine Residency program.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine within 1 year of Residency completion.
- Our health center requires all employees to be fully vaccinated for COVID19 and the Flu.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of post full licensure experience in the practice of medicine or osteopathic medicine.
