Vice President Risk & Quality
What will you be doing:
Premier Insurance provides management services to American Excess Insurance Exchange, RRG (AEIX), an excess professional liability reciprocal risk retention group, and also operates an insurance brokerage providing insurance products and services to healthcare entities and providers nationwide. AEIX members pool their risks and a majority of the members have internal claim management operations. Premier Insurance works with the member risk and quality teams to operationalize and execute the mission of AEIX, to partner with forward-thinking healthcare leaders to safeguard assets, enhance patient safety, and inspire innovation, through collaborative and strategic risk management.
The VP, Risk & Quality position is a senior leadership position responsible for the executive management and performance of the AEIX risk and quality operations reporting directly to the President of Premier Insurance. This position must set the strategic direction and oversight for the department and drive process improvement and quality services internally and externally with AEIX. This is both an operational position and a forward-facing client position and will require a high degree of coordination with other leaders and departments within Premier Insurance and Premier.
It is expected that a candidate for this role brings a high degree of expertise in designing and implementing risk management, safety, quality, and loss control services designed to reduce risk and losses for AEIX and its members. The VP will design, lead, and participate in projects relating to quality, safety and benchmarking initiatives, client satisfaction initiatives, client/employee education and process improvements. The VP will be required to speak at governance meetings and industry conferences regarding AEIX specifics, national trends, and provide updates on initiatives.
The VP, Risk & Quality must be a sophisticated, self-possessed individual who can balance working with different members and different personalities. This individual must be able to display a high degree of experience with an aptitude for complex and emerging risk and quality issues facing health systems. Diplomacy, sincerity, and a passion for vigilantly staying abreast of current industry trends and best practices are essential.
Risk Management Strategic Operations - 80%
- Develop and implement visionary risk management, patient safety, and quality strategic plan for AEIX
- Directly manage, evaluate, and motivate the risk management staff
- Ensure that industry risk and quality best practice policies and procedures are implemented to provide best in class risk management consulting services to AEIX members
- Develop and deploy safety, loss control and risk management services that mitigate risk exposures that are inherent to health care systems
- Provide research and draft advisory opinions regarding questions posed by AEIX members
- Develop AEIX, Premier Insurance or Premier quality or risk management projects
- Create a strategic framework to analyze and monitor loss trending
- Design risk control services and training packages which will meet the needs of AEIX members
- Design, manage, participate, and lead quality improvement collaboratives
- Design solutions and determine the most appropriate means for reducing losses and assign appropriate personnel and resources necessary to ensure efficient delivery of services
Risk Management Communication - 20%
- Develop content and obtain speakers for education webinars
- Manage content and speakers for AEIX risk management and governance meetings
- Manage annual program for providing awards and grants to AEIX members in recognition of outstanding quality and safety programs, including coordinating governance subcommittee responsible for collecting applications and determining winners
- Promote and increase visibility of Premier Insurance/AEIX at national quality or risk management associations (i.e. ASHRM)
- Support the traditional risk management services offered to AEIX members through knowledge transfer, i.e. writing articles for newsletters, finding speakers and/or marketing presentations, and developing education programs
- Manage content for the AEIX member community

Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $155,000 - $289,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
