Job Description
Position Overview:
The Director, Quality Management provides Quality Systems and Management support to the beverage operations throughout North America. The position will have ownership of the internal Product Safety oriented Quality Management Systems execution and auditing for the Beverage Business Group. Additionally, the position will lead proactive and reactive commercial activities along with operational activities support.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsibility for the structure, successful implementation, and maintenance of the Amcor Product Safety Oriented Quality Management System in Beverage Group manufacturing facilities
- Establishes and implements best practices in standards, methods, and procedures across all plants in the operating group
- Ensures that quality management activities are directed towards process improvement, continuous quality improvement, cost effectiveness of processes, systems and procedures, and permanent corrective / preventive actions
- Responsible for compiling and reporting upon overall cost of quality as related to external failures, internal failures, and appraisal cost as a % of sales as well as other metrics
- Uses Advanced Quality Planning to affect the delivery of reliable, high quality product designs and manufacturing systems through the provision of pro-active planning activities, support systems and procedures
- Organizes and implements training programs and processes to deliver fully capable and validated products to production
- Provides key contact and communications to group customers of the Beverage Group Quality Systems and Management Philosophy, presenting capacity to customers as a core competency
- Responsible for selection, development, mentoring of Plant level Quality Managers as well as Quality Management staff within the Corporate Beverage business group. Supports operations in the evaluation of performance of plant level staff engaged in the Quality Management function
- Provides training, support and leadership to product development and operations engineers about the reliability and process capability of new products
- Ensures plant audits from customers or vendor site visits are properly carried out to assure compliance and customer expectations
- Provides key contacts and communications to group customers during tactical incidents relating to facts, organizing and coordinating investigations, establishing corrective actions, securing funding and successfully closing incidents
- Represents Amcor in industry professional, technical, and trade associations as appropriate
- Manages systems verifications through Third Party Auditing (i.e. Good Manufacturing Practices Audits, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points Accreditation, and Product Safety Certifications, etc.)
- Drives proactive, long-term, systemic improvements in Quality Systems and Production Process Controls across the production facilities and their diverse production platforms.
- Identifies and secures funding for permanent corrective actions to stabilize production operations and customer relationships and grow the business.
- Ensures company suppliers and subcontractors have the required quality management procedures and processes in place that meet and support company quality management system certification requirements. Support VINs with follow up CAPAs and financial recover for supplier nonconformance issues
- Manages team of direct reports and is responsible for employee selection, development, mentoring, and performance management.
- Responsible for overall talent management and employee engagement; cultivates an environment of safety, high performance, and ethical and legal compliance; addresses employee relations issues.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Quality Systems, Engineering, Operations Management or other related technical disciplines. Significant post-graduate accreditations expected, Master's Degree preferred
- Plastics process and chemical engineering skills preferred
- 10 years' experience in plastics packaging manufacturing/packaging industries
- A minimum of four years' experience in supervising and leading employees
- Must have a thorough knowledge of advanced, modern production processes for plastics rigid packaging
- Professional Accreditation in Quality Engineering and Quality Management
- Experience and strong understanding of government regulations and compliance - (i.e. FDA, DEA, ISO, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of applicable engineering, manufacturing, continuous improvement and quality management-related standards and specifications
- Travel: 60%
