Director, Enterprise Strategy
Location: Northbrook, Chicago, Remote (Client would prefer someone that lives in the area)

A publicly traded industrial conglomerate seeks a Director, Enterprise Strategy to join their dynamic team. The Director will play an essential role in our enterprise efforts to deploy capital via organic and inorganic investments to drive sustainable growth and enterprise value. This role will collaborate with the SVP, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer and the broader company strategy community to shape our strategic direction, analyze new enterprise growth opportunities, develop partnerships, and coordinate strategic initiatives.
Reporting into the SVP, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, they will lead the research and assessment to develop a strategic plan along with building a well-defined pipeline of organic initiatives and M&A targets by identifying companies that align with strategic goals and partnering with business leaders to develop analytics and rationale to support acquisitions.

Responsibilities
- Work with the SVP, Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, Business Leaders, and the Strategy Community to develop a robust strategic plan that diversifies the company’s industry spaces and supports the company’s growth aspirations through expansion into new markets, technologies, and capabilities.
- Conduct primary and secondary research to build a deep understanding of market spaces and acquisition targets that can extend us into new spaces.
- Conduct market work to ensure we have early conviction in the space: industry and market sizes, structure, scope and trends, competitive threats, relevant products, technologies, and services for potential growth.
- Progress the work of establishing an enterprise growth framework for targeted assessment.
- Evaluate, develop the financial analysis for, and pursue investments that deliver against those core business strategies.
- In partnership with the SVP, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, lead the development of a comprehensive strategic plan and acquisition target list by cultivating a deep understanding of market dynamics.
- Conduct thorough analysis of industry and market landscapes, evaluating size, structure, scope, and trends.
- Identify and assess competitive threats and profitable business opportunities for the organization, including potential growth avenues encompassing products, technologies, and services.
- Craft visual market maps presenting key market segments and opportunities, facilitating clear strategic decision-making.
- Develop a robust pipeline through proactive engagement and cultivation.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to identify and vet companies aligning with strategic objectives, fostering strategic partnerships in both established and emerging market domains.
- Drive lead generation initiatives, nurturing relationships to cultivate a diverse and robust pipeline that has a successful conversion rate.
- Drive the advancement of the company's innovation capabilities, shaping toolkits and metrics to uphold excellence and measure success.
- Establish comprehensive innovation metrics in collaboration with business leaders, aligning internal benchmarks with industry best practices to gauge performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of innovation across the organization through targeted training and coaching, empowering leaders and peers to excel in innovation-driven initiatives and strategic endeavors.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree required, and MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 6-10 years of strategy consulting in Industrial niches (should have reached engagement manager or equivalent level), private equity, or corporate strategy experience.
- Strong team leadership capabilities and communication skills; an ability to work with and influence a variety of different positions within an organization.
- Experience preferred in industrial engineered products manufacturing or durable goods manufacturing.
- Experience conducting primary and secondary research on target companies and their markets, channels, and competitors.
- Strong business and financial acumen with exceptional analytical skills.
