TriMet is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Rail Operations to oversee all staffing and operational activities for rail transportation and field operations. This role ensures safe, high-quality service delivery, manages emergent situations, and oversees planned service disruptions. The Director will collaborate closely with the Operations Command Center, Bus Operations, Maintenance, and other internal stakeholders on various agency projects. Key responsibilities include employee engagement and labor relations, rule compliance and management, resource allocation and oversight, and a dedication to making our community better.
The Director is responsible for managing all staffing and operational activities for rail transportation and rail field operations to ensure high quality service delivery. Responsible for responding to emergent situations as needed, as well as managing planned service disruptions and overseeing rail projects in collaboration with the Operations Command Center, Bus Transportation, and other internal stakeholders. Responsible for employee and labor relations, and monitoring of resource allocation and productivity of the operator workforce.
This role requires being in office five (5) days per week.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Transportation/Urban Planning is preferred.
A minimum of eight (8) years total credited experience, with five (5) years of progressive responsibility in rail operations, including managing union employees in a twenty-four hour, seven day a week operation.
Three (3) years in a managerial level role in Rail Operations required.
Must possess valid Class C drivers' license.
Or any equivalent combination of training or experience.
- The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range
Minimum: $135,157.00
Maximum: $202,735.00
Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
