Job Summary: The Vanderbilt Health Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for an Executive Director of Total Rewards. Vanderbilt Health is seeking a strategic and collaborative Executive Director of Total Rewards to lead our Compensation and Benefits teams. The Executive Director of Total Rewards will lead the strategies, processes, and programs that support our commitment to recruit, retain, and motivate top talent. Reporting to the CHRO, the successful candidate will use a proactive and data-driven approach to ensure that our rewards help achieve desired business results, are aligned with our culture, and are valued by our workforce. The Executive Director of Total Rewards must be a strategic leader and a hands-on contributor with deep experience overseeing compensation and benefits and the employee experience delivered via the HR systems that support these programs.

Role Accountabilities:
- Develop and lead the comprehensive strategy for Total Rewards aimed at attracting and retaining top talent in a competitive environment.
- Demonstrate leadership on compensation issues related to pay structures, pay change recommendations, and wage and hour regulations.
- Design and implement a variety of health and welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits to support a growing and diverse workforce.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our rewards programs and identify and implement improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with the CHRO, finance colleagues, and other appropriate stakeholders, on annual increases and market adjustments; monitor workforce salary, wages, and benefits spend for trends and variances.
- Routinely assess cost-effective, competitive, benefits position relative to the market.
- Ensure all programs are administered consistently and in compliance with regulations including management of all compliance filings, reports, and audits directly or through vendors/partners.
- Cultivate relationships with external vendors and consultants to remain informed about innovative best practices that are proven to drive measurable business impact.
- Coordinate with our communications team to ensure the total rewards offerings are well understood and utilized by our diverse workforce.
- Provide engaging leadership to the Total Rewards teams, supporting a growth and development mindset.
- Serve as an integral member of the HR Senior Leadership Team.
- Prepare materials for Vanderbilt’s Health executive leadership team and Board of Directors as needed.
Qualifications – External:
- Master's Degree and 10 years’ experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten plus years of relevant work experience in Total Rewards, or HR Operations, with a concentration on compensation and benefits.
- Experience developing and using data and analytics to understand trends and establish strategic practices that enhance the quality of total rewards, build compelling business cases, and drive sound decision-making.
- Workday and healthcare industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), or similar certifications are a plus.
- Strong work ethic with planning and execution skills in a fast-paced environment.
- A service-oriented mindset and ability to interface with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with strong attention to detail.
