Reporting to the VP and GM of CarelonRx’s Advanced Home Delivery (AHD) national pharmacy, the Strategy Director and Chief of Staff is a key leadership position that will drive strategic growth in our AHD pharmacy business, ensure the right metrics are in place, results and performance are optimized, and financial targets are met. This position can work in a hybrid way from any US corporate Elevance Health location.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Strategic Leadership and Partnership: Collaborate with executive leadership to define and refine the strategy and success criteria for advanced home delivery pharmacy business growth. Act as a thought partner to the VP, providing strategic insights and standing in for the VP at critical business meetings.
- Strategy Translation and Implementation: Translate strategic goals into actionable tactics, programs, projects, priorities, and timelines. Ensure alignment and successful implementation across both regional and enterprise-level plans to turn strategy into actionable results.
- Financial Oversight and Acumen: Lead and manage the budget and headcount reconciliation for the advanced home delivery organization, including associated teams such as call centers and reporting teams. Track software licenses and optimize cost-efficiency to drive operational gain growth via cost-to-fill metrics, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Program Development and Enhancement: Develop and implement innovative programs to increase the volume and profitability of mail order prescriptions. Collaborate across the enterprise to implement integrated elements for health clients and standalone clients, fostering strategic growth.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Create, monitor, and report on key metrics to track progress against strategic goals. Develop high-quality presentations for executive management and interdepartmental meetings, showcasing program performance, strategic progress, and financial outcomes.
- Vendor Management: Oversee vendor interactions including selection, contract negotiations, issue resolution, and developing statements of work. Represent the organization in vendor business and executive committees, ensuring optimal vendor performance and relationship management.
- Decision-Making and Guidance: Provide critical decision-making support on projects and offer guidance to senior teams on complex issues. Ensure all projects are aligned with strategic objectives and approved by the Executive Sponsor.
- Market Research and Competitive Analysis: Research and analyze industry trends to maintain and sustain competitive advantage. Collaborate with business leadership to further define and adapt business strategy based on market insights.
- Coaching and Mentorship: Provide coaching and mentoring to other leaders within the organization on strategic thinking and execution. Champion transformative projects to elevate the business environment to industry-leading standards.
- Chief of Staff Responsibilities: Act as a chief of staff for the VP of AHD. Coordinate with account management teams for CarelonRx PBM and Elevance Health Plan. Manage client customization requests and intake, ensuring seamless program execution and client satisfaction.
Requires a BS/BA degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience including 3 years of leadership/management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Highly Preferred Skills And Experiences
- Experience leading strategic business and growth planning in a healthcare business.
- Expertise in multiple disciplines within a national mail order or home delivery pharmacy model and a pharmacy benefit management (PBM) firm. Deep understanding of overall pharmacy benefit design and cost-to-fill measures.
- Experience with project and program management.
- Experience serving as a Chief of Staff and thought-partner to an Executive leader.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; Executive-level communication design, packaging, and delivery.
- Experience leading in a highly matrixed organization.
- Advanced graduate degree preferred.

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy.
