Job Summary
The General Manager of this rendering facility is responsible for the sales growth, retention of customers, customer satisfaction, profitability, operational controls, health and safety performance, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages and coordinates the activities of all personnel, property, plant equipment, and fleet engaged in the acquisition and processing of raw material and storage and distribution of finished goods.
- Responsible for the development of the management staff including Office Manager, Fleet Manager, Plant Manager and others who impact the performance of the facility.
- Ensures facility compliance with Corporate policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Develops, implements, and monitors annual plant budget; reviews monthly expenditures.
- Approves accounts payables ensuring all Corporate accounting procedures are followed.
- Recruits and hires plant, fleet, and administrative personnel; selects participants for management training program.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate wage rates for personnel subject to Corporate approval.
- Responsible for proper training of all employees.
- Monitors relationships with raw material suppliers; resolves issues when necessary; continuously monitors geographic area for new suppliers.
- Manages safety program and is ultimately responsible for plant safety; maintains safety as top priority in accordance with all company safety rules and regulations.
- Responsible for plant transportation needs for both raw material and finished product, and for all modes of transportation used such as rail car, truckload, barge, etc.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 or more years working in a midlevel management position; experience must be in an industrial or plant setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the rendering industry a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in agri-business or related field preferred.
- Work well with others in a team-based environment.
- Communicates clearly both verbally and in written form; excellent analytical skills.
- Leadership ability; able to direct personnel.
- Requires minimum supervision; makes timely, accurate judgments regarding production and process quality.
- Highly organized; superior time management skills.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
- Frequently must push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
Job functions will be carried out in a plant environment which requires tolerance for high heat and/or cold temperatures as well as an office environment.
