Overview:
The Director of the Program Management Office (PMO) is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and directing the organization's program management function. This individual will be responsible for leading and maturing the PMO. This role involves ensuring the organization has and adheres to PMO standards and practices, delivering project and program management excellence for our customers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
This individual will play a critical role in ensuring effective planning, execution, and delivery of strategic programs and initiatives across the organization. The Director of PMO will collaborate closely with executive and business sector leadership, project managers, and stakeholders to drive alignment, optimize resources, and achieve business objectives while raising the overall performance of Vision Technologies Project Management processes.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the PMO function, aligning it with the organization's overall goals and strategic objectives.
- Develop and implement PMO policies, processes, and methodologies to standardize project management practices across the organization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and excellence in delivery.
Governance and Program Excellence:
- Establish and maintain a robust governance framework to ensure projects align with organizational priorities incorporating standardized practices, principles, tools and templates.
- Clearly define roles, responsibilities, and accountability structures for stakeholders, including project sponsors, steering committees, and project teams.
- Implement and oversee PMO Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress, identify risks, and address issues proactively, ensuring delivery excellence.
- Develop processes for ongoing project performance evaluation, setting and tracking key milestones.
Resource Management:
- Collaborate with business sector leaders to facilitate strategic resource planning and allocation across and within business sectors, ensuring optimal staffing levels capabilities.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive resource capacity and utilization reports. Address resources challenges through strategic recruitment, training, or outsourcing as needed.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the PMO and across business sectors to drive professional growth and leverage expertise.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain understanding of, and monitor, programs, projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and/or contractual clarifications, to identify opportunities to ensure successful and timely implementation/execution.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on program-related matters, providing insights, recommendations, and risk assessments.
Quality Management:
- Establish quality assurance processes and standards to ensure the delivery of high-quality project outcomes.
- Monitor and evaluate project performance against quality metrics.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues.
- Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to address potential threats to project success.
Change Management:
- Lead change management initiatives to facilitate the adoption of new processes, tools, and methodologies within the organization.
- Support project teams in managing change effectively.
Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the PMO to enhance project management capabilities, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation.
Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to PMO staff.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the PMO team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, or related field.
- Proven track record of leadership and success in program and/or project management, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in progressively responsible roles.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills required with experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a matrixed environment.
- Strong understanding of, and demonstrated experience applying, project management methodologies, tools, and best practices, such as PMBOK, Agile, and Lean Six Sigma.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- PMP, PgMP, or other relevant certifications preferred.
- Expertise with Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Change management expertise.
- Experience in driving organizational change and/or leading transformation initiatives.
