About this position
The Investment Operations Department (INO) of IDB Invest is responsible for generating a portfolio of high quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant development impact. The business cycle goes from the identification, selection, origination and execution of transactions to their monitoring. INO follows a matrix model, with three segment divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and two transversal divisions: Financial Products and Services Division and the Portfolio Management Division.
You will work in the Equity and Mezzanine team (EQM) of the Financial Products and Services Division. This team is responsible for supporting the origination, structuring, negotiation, approval, and closing of equity and mezzanine investment transactions in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC Region).
IDB Invest is sponsoring the design and establishment of a collaborative Investment Management Platform (IMP) to deploy equity and quasi-equity financing in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the main role of this position will be to support this initiative.
What you’ll do:
- Supporting activities related to the establishment of an IMP to deploy equity and quasi-equity financing in LAC, which will include:
- Support in drafting founding documentation, including policies and procedures.
- Support in the hiring process of the start-up management team.
- Support in arranging the business infrastructure (office space, information technology, telecommunications, etc.).
- Support the IMP fundraising strategy to attract like-minded institutional investors as shareholders of the IMP.
- Support in the structuring analysis and financial modelling of the platform and its various activities.
- Participate in industry gatherings and do market research to support the business origination and execution efforts aligned with the IMP investment strategy.
- Supporting activities related to the structuring of the first underlying fund (i.e. Fund I) under the IMP, which will include:
- Support in researching for developing the investment strategy of Fund I.
- Support in the drafting of Fund I legal documents, such as Private Placement Memo and Limited Partnership Agreement.
- Support in building an investment pipeline.
- Support designing a results framework that includes proper monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure impact and financial considerations are integrated into portfolio management of the fund.
- Support in the analysis and due diligence of potential investment opportunities, including financial modelling, conducting market research, liaising with internal and external experts on due diligence, legal and structuring matters, writing of investment papers and memos.
- Support on daily operations of the IMP including budget activities and preparation of update reports for stakeholders (e.g. Board of Directors and shareholders).
What you'll need:
- Education: master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: Between 5 - 9 years of relevant experience in private equity funds, wealth sovereign funds, pension funds, or other relevant firm/vehicle investing or advising on equity and quasi-equity transactions. Strong financial and analytical skills are required.
- An interest and desire to be involved in all aspects of starting a new business, from the high-level strategic to the more mundane of tasks.
Requirements:
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
- Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 24 months.
