POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Director, Impact, is responsible for the high-level planning, strategic direction, and oversight of initiatives that communicate the Foundation’s impact on improving the health of people with rheumatic disease. Collaborating across all departments, the Senior Director ensures that the Foundation’s mission and strategic priorities are effectively conveyed to target audiences. This role manages the Director and Specialist within the Impact Department, driving the execution of strategic communications and branding efforts.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning and Direction
- Develop and ensure execution of comprehensive strategies to enhance the Foundation’s visibility and brand recognition.
- Align communication strategies with the Foundation’s mission priorities and long-term strategic plans to ensure impactful messaging.
- Lead the strategic planning of the Foundation’s presence at professional meetings, events, and conferences to maximize visibility and engagement.
- Develop and oversee the strategic direction for website design (including Rheumlab) ensuring the site aligns with the organization’s brand, messaging, and overall mission objectives.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Work closely with all departments to integrate and manage initiatives that highlight the Foundation’s impact.
- Oversee project management processes that ensure departmental needs are met and aligned with the overall strategic vision.
Brand and Content Oversight
- Provide editorial guidance and brand oversight for all external communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with the Foundation’s mission.
- Lead the production and strategic planning of original content for Foundation publications, events, and brand management initiatives.
- Develop and implement a cutting-edge video content strategy, including storyboarding and scripting, to amplify the Foundation’s visibility and deepen engagement with target audiences.
Metrics and Analytics
- Develop and utilize metrics to measure and track the Foundation’s brand awareness and the impact of communication strategies.
- Provide analytical reports and insights to key staff and leadership to guide future efforts and improve effectiveness.
Volunteer Leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison for Impact Advisory Council and its working groups, or task forces as needed.
- Participate as a member of the Foundation’s leadership team, attending Board of Directors meetings and contributing to strategic planning efforts.
Management
- Develop and manage the Impact Department’s annual budget, including preparing variance and projection reports.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Impact Department team, ensuring roles are clearly defined, communication is effective, and expectations are aligned.
- Provide training, tools, and resources to volunteers and staff to maximize the Foundation’s community impact.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Manage any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Frequent travel required to fulfill job responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA in communications, marketing, business, or related field plus 10 years’ experience in a communications or agency setting or MS/MA/MBA/JD preferred.
- Demonstrated strategic thinker who can create and execute a strategic communication plan.
- Nonprofit experience with demonstrable progression of advancement and proven success in volunteer and organizational change management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead strategic communications, media relations, and marketing programs.
- The ability to convey complex ideas and key messages to diverse audiences in both written and verbal form.
- The ability to craft compelling narratives that connect with audiences on an emotional level.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with a variety of individuals including donors, prospective donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining focus on long-term strategy.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including the ability to translate complex topics for a lay audience.
- Professional proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word is required. Web browsing proficiency is also required.
- Familiarity with virtual meeting software applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or similar is required.
