Scion Executive Search has been exclusively retained by TLC Child and Family Services (TLC) to identify its incoming Chief Development Officer (CDO). TLC is seeking a highly accomplished and strategic fundraising leader to drive the evolution of a robust fundraising and communications infrastructure of the organization. As a brand ambassador, the CDO will be instrumental in cultivating a high-performing development team with a passion for supporting the most vulnerable in Sonoma County. Reporting to the CEO, and a seat at the table, the CDO will serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The CDO will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the TLC impact. Based in beautiful Sonoma County, this full-time, onsite position is perfect for a highly driven, relationship-centric professional eager to make a lasting impact.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the CEO and collaborating with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the CDO spearheads the creation and execution of dynamic fundraising and communication programs built to amplify the TLC values of excellence, integrity, collaboration, and equity. This outward facing and community centric role is pivotal in identifying new funding streams, implementing data-driven strategies, and driving outreach and community engagement. Collaborating with the ELT, directors, and communication specialists, the CDO will harness data to fuel grant writing, donor cultivation, and impactful fundraising. This position demands creativity, strong leadership, and the agility to navigate a complex, ever-changing landscape. The ideal candidate is an outgoing, collaborative professional with a talent for building strong connections.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy focused on outward-facing and community centric goals.
- Excellent networking abilities to expand the organization’s reach and influence within the community.
- Superb skills in building and cultivating relationships with community leaders, donors, and local organizations.
- Lead and inspire a collaborative, agile, and high-performing development team responsible for outreach, donor cultivation, strategy, event planning, mailings, and marketing/advertising.
- In tandem with community partners, develop collaborative strategies for program development contributions that comply with State and Federal legislation.
- Oversee and manage legacy giving.
- Develop and manage content for various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, press releases and the TLC website.
- Proven experience working with coalitions, impacted groups, and nonprofits.
- Develop a strong understanding of TLC’s programs, funding, and relevant legislation.
- Proactively stay abreast of emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges, pivoting strategies as needed.
- Mentor and engage in development activities like grant data collection, donor cultivation, and fundraising efforts.
- Collaborate with ELT and the development team to identify funding opportunities and create strategies for sustainable growth.
- Accountable for fundraising goal: 20% donations, grants, foundations, and new business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of post-degree professional experience with a nonprofit.
- 2+ years of experience in a management capacity responsible for leading the strategic direction of a development team.
- Tech savvy: proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Calendars, project management, marketing, and fundraising platforms such as Greater Giving.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent project management skills. Air Table experience is highly preferred.
- Bilingual – highly preferred.
COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:
A competitive base salary of $125,000-$180,000 DOE, TLC Child and Family Services offers a competitive benefits package including 100% employer-paid, medical, dental, vision life, and AD&D for the employee and a 403(b) plan with employer matching up to 4%, generous time off and so much more!
