Overview Responsible for the planning, implementation and direction of the Internal Medicine Residency in coordination with the DME, DIO and Office of Medical Education. The Program Director (PD) is responsible for the overall planning and direction of activities associated with the Internal Medicine (IM) Residency in order to meet the ACGME, ABFM, Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements for resident physicians and faculty as outlined by the hospital. Under the direction of the DME, DIO and the Graduate Medical Education Committee, the PD assists in maintaining and supporting the mission of patient care, the medical staff bylaws, and the policies, procedures and bylaws of the medical center (in accordance with the Board of Directors, Administration, Medical Staff, and Nursing of Beebe Healthcare). The ACGME RRC must approve the Program Director.
Responsibilities 1.Design and conduct the program in a fashion consistent with the needs of the community, the mission of Beebe Healthcare, and the mission of the program.
2.Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competency areas.
3.Maintain clinical skills by providing direct patient care.
4.Understand and fully implement the ACGME Institutional Requirements, Common Program Requirements along with the TY Specific Program requirements.
5.Responsible to the DM & DIO, for ensuring compliance with the policies and procedures of Beebe Healthcare, the Medical Staff bylaws and the policies of Graduate Medical Education.
6.Approve the selection of the program faculty, as appropriate, and evaluate program faculty on an annual basis and approve the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluations.
7.Assists in assuring the arrangement of affiliations and/or outside rotations necessary to meet the program objectives. Must approve a local director for each participating site and monitor resident supervision at all participating sites.
8.Prepare and submit all required information as requested by the ACGME. This includes, but is not limited to the program application forms and annual program updates to ADS, and ensure that the information submitted is accurate and complete.
9.Ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution.
10.Provide verification of residency education for all residents, including those who leave the program prior to completion.
11.Implement policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements for resident work hours and the working environment, including moonlighting.
12.Obtain DIO review and co-signature on all program application forms, as well as any correspondence or document submitted to the ACGME that addresses program citations, and/or, requests for changes in program that would have significant impact, including financial, on the program or institution.
13.Responsible for educational activities such as coordinating monthly journal club, board review and other didactics.
14.Assist in coordinating and participate in planned faculty development activities either onsite or offsite.
15.Ensures that the residents demonstrate competency in meeting or exceeding the minimum standards for quality patient care utilizing competency-based evaluation. Assess compliance with residency competencies and skills development requirements.
16.Fully participates in any Academic and Disciplinary action or contract termination involving a IM resident.
17.Evaluate the program annually as part of the Program Evaluation Committee.
18.Meet with and document all the IM residents at least quarterly to ensure that program objectives are being met.
19.Evaluate the performance of the IM Residents, in conjunction with the faculty and medical staff; will counsel residents concerning performance and will take appropriate academic/disciplinary action or develop a remediation plan as needed.
20.Provides final written evaluation for each resident who completes the program.
21.Selects residents for appointment to the program in compliance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures.

22.Participates in the Orientation activities for all residents.
23.Assists in evaluating the quality of care provided by the Residents through concurrent and/or retrospective random chart reviews, or other reviews as appropriate, with follow-up educational sessions.
24.Attends and participates in the regularly scheduled GMEC meetings and any other education and planning meetings as required by GME.
25.Participates in the education of medical students, as appropriate, upon the direction of the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
26.Serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee representing the IM Program.
27.Establish and maintain an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component.
28.Any other educational duties as directed by the Director of Medical Education, DIO and/or GMEC.
Qualifications Requirements:
1. AOA or ABMS board certification in Internal Medicine or an IM subspeciality.
2. Current medical licensure in the state of Delaware and appropriate medical staff appointment.
3. Documented clinical, educational and administrative experience beyond residency training with at least three (3) years of experience as academic faculty in an ACGME accredited program.
4. Demonstration of professional behaviors that allow the Program Director to serve as a role model.
5. Demonstrate values and behaviors consistent with Beebe Healthcare?s values and behavior standards.
6. Demonstration of strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
