The Role
The Director, Project Management (Portfolio and Business Development) is a highly visible leadership role supporting the Portfolio and Business Development functions. The position provides the opportunity to deliver projects in a complex matrixed environment facilitating operational execution and timeline oversight. This individual will liaise closely with all functions within the organization, as well as with external partners and colleagues within our Japan organization, to ensure harmonized and integrated strategy, planning, and execution across the organization in the areas of Portfolio Management and Business Development. The position will be based in Burlington, Massachusetts (hybrid preferred, but remote considered) and will report to the Head of the Program Management Office.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Portfolio
- Design, develop, and implement tools to enable effective portfolio management and operations (e.g., document repositories, automated communications, trackers).
- Provide operational and program management support to ensure appropriate meeting cadence, action item follow-ups, and timely completion of deliverables.
- Maintain the Portfolio view slide deck, including processes to ensure alignment with both the individual Program Teams and with R&D Leadership.
- Develop appropriate views to visualize the portfolio from different perspectives relevant to portfolio management (e.g., functional-level views, resourcing requirements).
- Develop and implement a portfolio-level risk management process with the PMO and R&D Leadership.
- Manage the R&D governance process.
Business Development
- In collaboration with Business Development leadership:
- Define the appropriate workstreams, deliverables, and timelines.
- Develop and implement appropriate project management processes to facilitate tracking, execution, and coordination of multiple business development workstreams.
- Provide operational support to kick-off and effectively execute business development workstreams.
- Maintain appropriate risk management processes and trackers to allow for adjustments to the strategy as conditions evolve.
- Collaborate across the organization to design, build, and maintain appropriate virtual data rooms to support technical and corporate diligence.
- In collaboration with R&D Leadership, prepare the R&D organization for due diligence activities.
- Provide operational support to effectively manage due diligence activities.
Other
- Keep all stakeholders regularly informed of project progress, risks, and issues through periodic reporting.
- Identify and resolve issues that impact project scope, resources, schedule, or budget.
- Understand, manage, and track project inter-dependencies to achieve established milestones and deliverables.
- Identify and support initiatives, processes, or tools to support company growth and transformation.
- Maintain high-quality Project Management standards and deliverables.

Requirements
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with minimum 10 years of experience in Biotech or Pharma; formal program management training (e.g., PMP certification) is a plus.
- 5+ years of prior experience in portfolio management and/or business development operations.
- Strong understanding of the roles of Research, Development, and SG&A functions and their relevance in a biotech company; experience having managed drug development programs is a plus.
- Strong analytical and technology skills, including proficiency with project management tools, including Smartsheets, content management tools, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Motivated and effective team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can work with minimal supervision and direction to manage and prioritize multiple projects and workstreams, and has excellent attention to detail.
- Communication and interpersonal skills that allow for effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional team members and members of the leadership team.
- Effective and clear presentation skills.
