Portneuf Medical Center:
Based in Pocatello, Idaho, Portneuf Medical Center is a nationally recognized, comprehensive healthcare leader. With 205 beds, PMC serves as the region’s Level II Trauma and tertiary care center and is home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group and Portneuf Air Rescue. PMC has women’s and children’s services with a level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, an adult Intensive Care Unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, oncology services, a full suite of cardiac care, center of excellence recognized surgeons, imaging, primary and specialty care. Portneuf Medical Center is a Joint Venture between Ardent Health Services and Portneuf Health Trust.
Job Overview:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team at Portneuf Medical Center as a Chief Executive Officer.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides leadership and directs the overall operation of the facility consistent with the mission, values, and strategy of Ardent Health Services as well as with the goals and objectives of the facility and its advisory or governing body. The CEO plans, organizes, applies, directs, controls, and evaluates all resources (human, facilities, equipment, capital, fiscal, and others) invested in the facility. The CEO uses all resources to generate measurable results to benefit the corporation, the community, the facility, the medical staff, and the patient.
Responsibilities:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulates and executes a regional growth strategy for both in-patient and out-patient services. Establishes effective and collaborative relationships to foster growth plans.
- Ensures alignment of the hospital system goals and objectives with the JV Partner (Portneuf Health Trust).
- Builds and maintains a high performing leadership environment.
- Collaborates and builds community/statewide relationships and business. Collaborates with other local providers and/or organizations to identify high quality, high impact care models (how can we help outlying hospitals to assist them and form strong relationships and referral patterns). Creates outreach programs to remote areas and communities.
- Continued development of Organizational Excellence through ensuring culture is supportive of all process improvement and streamlined workflow to ensure patient flow with a goal-oriented focus.
- Strengthens workforce culture to ensure adequate workforce for continued growth.
- Collaborates with system peers including shaping system-wide initiatives to reduce redundancies and duplication of services, capital, personnel, etc.
- Embrace and capitalize on sharing high performing resources across a matrixed system to promote high performance and system-wide consistency.
- Operates as a visible leader in the facility, the system, and community.
- Places a high priority on effective identification and selection processes for the hiring of talent across the organization.
- Sets clear direction with leaders/managers and establishes a culture of accountability.
- Motivates, develops and partners with direct reports to help build their success.
- Develops short and long-range management and organization plans to define responsibilities and business activities consistent with facility goals and objectives.
- Implements Ardent Health Services’ ethics and compliance program throughout the organization. Ensures that policies are uniformly understood and consistently interpreted and administered.
- Develops and maintains effective and collaborative relationships with the medical staff and ensures our ability to meet the health needs of the community.
- Ensures that operational and financial reports are prepared as required in regularly scheduled meetings and committees.
- Maintains accreditation and licensure standards for Medicare, Medicaid, state licensure, and other regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for the facility’s quality improvement and organizational effectiveness programs.
- Ensures best practice, evidence-based approaches to consistently deliver exceptional, well-coordinated and integrated care that delivers high level outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Position Requirements:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Hospital Administration, or Business Administration.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare administration.
- Excellent verbal, quantitative, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
- Current knowledge of The Joint Commission, OSHA, state and federal regulatory standards.
- Willingness to relocate to Pocatello, Idaho.

- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate ideas, problems, instructions (written and oral) with corporate management staff, facility management staff and employees.
- Ability to analyze situations, evaluate data, recommend, and implement courses of action that would improve the functioning of the company.
