About ACCESS College Foundation
In 1988, two Norfolk businessmen established the ACCESS College Foundation to administer the ACCESS program. The Foundation aims to make college a reality for thousands of young people in South Hampton Roads. ACCESS supports students through its College and Career Success Program, ensuring they thrive in college and graduate within six years. The organization has strong financial backing, with an annual operating budget exceeding $6 million and an endowment of over $60 million.
Position Summary and Responsibilities
ACCESS College Foundation seeks a strategic, energetic, and visionary leader to serve as its next President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO will manage a staff of nearly 50 and execute the strategic growth plans to expand ACCESS’ impact.
Executive Leadership
- Complete the existing 2023-2027 strategic planning cycle and lead the development of subsequent strategies.
- Further an existing positive organizational culture aligned with mission and values.
- Partner with the Vice President of Finance and Administration and the Board on ACCESS’ budget.
- Represent ACCESS at organizational events and industry happenings.
- Serve as ACCESS’ spokesperson to stakeholders, including donors and community leaders.
- Recruit, oversee, and evaluate staff to foster growth.
External Engagement
- Manage and grow fundraising efforts across various sectors.
- Create a fundraising strategy to develop new revenue channels.
- Serve as ACCESS’ ambassador across its geographical footprint.
- Increase awareness and expand social media presence.
- Assess partnerships for new revenue opportunities.
- Oversee capital campaign completion.
- Partner with the Vice President of Development in fundraising efforts.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Programs on school partnerships.
Board Engagement
- Serve as the primary advisor to the Board of Directors.
- Partner with the Board on donor opportunities.
- Attract new Board members capable of making an impact.
- Represent staff to various Board committees.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Fifteen plus years in a leadership role in non-profit or education sectors.
- A passionate commitment to ACCESS’ mission.
- Sound business and financial acumen.
- Experience in building relationships with donors.
- Understanding of the education industry.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Change management experience.
- Experience working with Boards of Directors.
- Integrity and transparency.

Education
An undergraduate degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
Compensation
ACCESS College Foundation offers an annual compensation of approximately $250 - 300k+ including both base salary and bonus.
