What you'll be doing...
This position supports the Transaction Tax department to ensure accurate billing of taxes (transactional & regulatory taxes) to Verizon's customers. The individual in this position will provide support in the building of the tax billing and exemption capability through all facets of the development lifecycle, (e.g., Business Requirements, system testing, user testing) to ensure successful completion and implementation. The individual in this position will support billing systems' tax/surcharge rules engine conversions across all current and future billing systems. This position requires that the individual analyzes tax billing and exemption changes to construct business system requirements communicating the necessary changes. Additionally, the individual may analyze the impact of tax law changes or new tax types on the billing processes & create requirements to communicate to the IT organization how the changes must be billed and reported.
In addition to gaining exposure to a world-class Tax department, this role is responsible for the following:
- Support/manage the implementation of billing systems conversions relating to taxing, tax regulatory taxing, and standardized tax engines.
- Define/document business system requirements and partner with IT to manage the changes to the tax exemption systems' processes.
- Accountable for managing the development life cycle for changes from inception to requirements through testing and implementation.
- Test/validate tax billing & exemption system changes and post-production verification support.
- Translate business needs and legislative interpretations into business system requirements and terminology.
- Research, analyze, and resolve production issues.
- Maintain ongoing data integrity and accuracy relating to reference and documentation databases.
- Field questions/inquiries from business partners and customer care on tax rules or billing issues.
- Build support tools to improve processes, and gain efficiencies in the taxing/regulatory process and business system requirements' functions.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Systems, Finance, or four or more years of work experience.
- Five or more years of relevant work experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word/Excel, Google Docs/Sheets.
- Ability to interface with Tax and Regulatory Legal, Tax Technology, Tax Research and other business groups.
- Strong research and technical skills including knowledge of billing system requirements and development life cycles.
- Motivated with the ability to work with little to no supervision and within a team environment.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
- Experience with Taxation systems.
- Advanced knowledge and experience using Alteryx, SQL, and relational databases.
- Strong command of SOX 404 and internal controls.
- Practical experience in leading teams of professionals, motivating teams of employees, communicating technical and administrative issues, mentoring employees, and developing employees.
- Strong leadership skills and a proven history of experience in successfully managing multiple teams and multiple projects are required including the ability to drive positive change and a working understanding of digital finance tools to drive automation and process efficiencies.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to partner effectively across the Tax/Regulatory organization, as well as presentation skills and the ability to present to senior management.
