The Senior Manager Environmental Permitting will be responsible for all aspects of environmental permitting and compliance at the state and federal levels for utility-scale renewable and transmission projects across the U.S. The individual will work with legal, development, construction, and operation teams across the project lifecycle to ensure strategies and compliance are aligned with environmental regulations, project requirements, and industry best practices.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide leadership within the company to develop environmental strategies and help solve complex matters through effective application of expert knowledge on environmental permitting and compliance in the renewable industry.
- Support the design and permitting of projects to ensure environmental considerations are being incorporated into project plans and execution.
- Identify and manage environmental requirements, schedules, budgets and risks in collaboration with development and project teams.
- Oversee the work of environmental consultants including reviewing proposals and study plans, scheduling surveys, and ensuring methodologies are adequate to address agency input, project and regulatory needs.
- External stakeholder management including leading agency consultation.
- Support the company in developing internal guidelines, EMPs, and mitigation strategies related to environmental impacts and biodiversity throughout development, construction, and operations.
Other Responsibilities
- Support construction and operations with environmental permits and compliance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support Tribal Nation engagement as needed.
- Work with executive leadership to ensure ESG policies and strategies are properly implemented, including support of ESG data collection and reporting.
- Support due diligence teams with environmental reviews.
- Travel as needed to job sites, conferences and headquarters office, typically 10 – 15%.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree.
- 5+ years in utility-scale wind energy development.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of renewable energy project life cycle and construction execution/financial close.
- Knowledge and experience implementing federal and state environmental laws, guidelines, and policies (including but not limited to NEPA, USFWS, NHPA, BGEPA, MBTA) to the development of renewable energy projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
Preferred Qualification
- Masters or JD preferred.
- Direct experience developing projects with Tribal Nations.
- Experience with application of Equator Principles/similar standards to projects.
- ESG, sustainability, and biodiversity experience.
