Purpose of Position: To provide leadership in a customer focused organization to grow sales and profits in an assigned territory.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Be sales focused.
- Responsible for driving sales and growing market share in district. Build a district that represents the Southern States Brand. Lead by example with field work and sales calls. Full day store visits should include 1-3 customer calls.
- Communicate market trends in your district for feed, agronomy, farm supplies and petroleum to retail operations management and wholesale divisions.
- Foster an environment with open communications for growth and development of all retail employees.
- Interact with employees to build trust. Create a comfortable climate for raising concerns. Demonstrate the ability to listen, observe and be an objective sounding board.
- Provide direction and set expectations while encouraging suggestions and new ideas. Maintain a work environment where employees are committed to their location and company goals. Build a positive and energetic attitude and inspire them to do their best.
- Build a bench of employees equipped with the right skills and training to position them for future succession through individual development plans and performance management process.
- Promote training opportunities for retail employees in the areas of customer service, operations, product knowledge, administrative responsibilities and day to day operations.
- Ensure each location conducts employee meetings, a minimum of 6 per year. Attend at least one employee meeting at each location in your district annually.
- Develop consistent standards in all stores in assigned territory. Use personal "DM tracks" that cover profitability, volume, margins, expense control, audit compliance, credit compliance, policy compliance, people, performance management, salary programs, environmental compliance, safety compliance, inventory management, merchandising, events, promotions, housekeeping and image.
- Handle all complaints.
- Grow Southern States distribution in oversight of Managed Cooperatives in assigned territory. Guide managed cooperatives to support corporate policies and procedures.
- Develop strong Coop and Advisory Board relationships through open communications that enhance feedback to improve performance of the location. Listening, confidentiality and follow up are key components. Responsible to hold a minimum of quarterly and annual meetings.
- Plan, protect, utilize and maintain of all equipment, facilities and assets.
- Submit required reporting in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS Degree, preferably in Agriculture or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, execute and work independently. Strong people, leadership and business skills. Minimum of three years work experience as a proven administrator and manager. Good communications and supervisory skills required. Southern States retail experience preferred or experience from a similar retail industry is acceptable.
Requires physical strength and dexterity to walk, stand, bend, climb, reach, stoop, twist and lift/carry 50 pounds. Vision, hearing and speech essential. Hand coordination to use computer. Valid driver's license. While traveling may have contact with hazardous materials and drive/travel and work in adverse weather conditions.
