Overview:
A heavy civil highway and bridge construction company in the Mid-Atlantic region is adding a Senior Project Manager to the team. They are one of the most prominent general contractors in heavy highway and bridge construction in the area, reinforcing that reputation is the commitment from their tightly knit group of project managers and field crews who ensure that unmatched quality, value and integrity are built into every one of their projects. Their expertise spans multiple core segments of the heavy highway and bridge construction arena, across Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.
Day to Day:
The Senior Project Manager is primarily responsible for planning, directing and coordinating construction activities associated with heavy civil projects, mainly construction, repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and underground utilities. The position is further expected to participate in and positively contribute to the conceptual development of project estimates and workplans followed by overseeing the projects’ organization, scheduling, budgeting and implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the safety managers and executive team to create and maintain a project level safety plan providing a framework for the consistent implementation of safety procedures and safe work practices.
- Plan, organize and direct all activities related to assigned construction projects.
- Monitor the performance of assigned project teams (project engineers, superintendents, foremen).
- Prepare resourcing, scheduling and budgeting plans to achieve project goals and be accountable for the respective performance of the project.
- Generate and track budget estimates and provide weekly/monthly reports regarding progress and cost.
- Negotiate, draft and manage subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Coordinate submittals and schedules with third parties to ensure quality, compliance and timeliness.
- Represent the company in project meetings; provide technical advice to resolve discrepancies, improve overall quality, ensure safety and reduce costs.
- Create, distribute and oversee the compliant execution of work plans that describe the sequencing, means and methods as well as associated risk factors.
- Prepare project schedules aimed at successful delivery of projects in consideration of realistic material, equipment and human resource constraints.
- Manage contract change processes in response to differing conditions, delays, inclement weather or other unforeseen events.
- Collect and track project quantities, generate invoices, approve vendor/sub-contractor invoices and report deviations from estimates.
Must Have:
Minimum of a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or other related degree.5+ years of related experience, 2+ years project management experience preferred in heavy construction (roads, bridges and underground utilities).Must be capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, detail oriented; have above average interpersonal skills and have excellent follow-through capability.General knowledge of construction contract language and principles of dispute resolution.Microsoft Office Suite proficiency and working knowledge of project management and CPM scheduling software such as Sage Timberline, HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job, Viewpoint, Procore, MS Project, Primavera P6 or other similar tools.Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential to this position.Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment; able to accurately process construction plans and documents, provide technical engineering advice in the context of complex civil engineering projects, perform duties in a timely manner, be highly organized and able to interface and communicate effectively with company, clients and field personnel at all levels.Travel to LOCAL jobsites 2-3 times per week.
