Job Summary
Applies skills as a seasoned clinical applications professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large projects. This role has a dual reporting structure to Mission Bay Pediatrics Heart Center as well as the Oakland Pediatrics Heart Center IT team, who support clinical applications across the Pediatrics Heart and Vascular enterprise. This role serves as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team to assist with data abstraction from Epic and other various software platforms, report building, writing, and analysis from the electronic medical record, among other responsibilities. This individual works with clinicians to provide data-driven insights that drive programmatic strategies, growth, quality initiatives, and more. They also provide customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance for clinical and informational technology applications in the Mission Bay Pediatrics Heart Center documentation, troubleshoot workstations and servers at an application level, and facilitate open communication with IT / Clinical Systems and our departmental partners.

Department Description
The Division of Cardiology is one of the largest clinical, research, and training divisions of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at UCSF. Within the Division are sub-specialty sections for Adult Congenital Heart Disease; Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant, and Pulmonary Hypertension; Cardiac Electrophysiology; Echocardiography and Cardiac Imaging; General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Prevention. The Division runs several clinical practices in multiple sites, conducts basic and clinical research, and educates medical students, residents, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral scholars through ACGME as well as non-ACGME training programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience/training.
- Be available 24x7 for emergencies involving critical technical problems.
- Three (3) years of related experience in a hospital environment.
- Experience with clinical core software applications and SQL Server Databases, proven experience in the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies and mainframe applications.
- Broad and / or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
- Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively, train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.
- Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.
- Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.
- Ability to work in a constantly ever-changing high-tech clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical applications users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
- Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.
- Experience with Visual Studio programming.
- Understanding of server operation principles and practices in a complex client/server, distributed computing environment.
- Knowledge of HL7 interface protocols and networking, including TCP/IP, FTP, and client-server technologies.
- Understanding of Clinical Operations and ability to quickly assess, recommend and improve clinical workflows.
- Experience in Cardiology services.
- Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.
- Knowledge with UCSF APeX clinical systems, data, policies and procedures.
