JOB SUMMARY
The Attending Physician, Multimodality Imaging Cardiologist specializes in advanced cardiac imaging applications of structural interventional echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac computed tomography (CT), and/or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) throughout Cook County Health (CCH) under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Adult Cardiology Clinical. The position will perform and interpret regular and advanced cardiac imaging as well as other non-invasive cardiology studies and participates in clinic, consultation, inpatient, and cardiac intensive care services across CCH as well as training of students, residents, and fellows.
Typical Duties
- Provides specialized direct care and consultative cardiology services for patients in the inpatient and outpatient sites of CCH.
- Provides specialized acute and chronic cardiac care aimed at improving patient outcomes.
- Performs and interprets essential non-invasive diagnostic studies including, but not limited to, transthoracic echocardiography, diagnostic and interventional transesophageal echocardiography, stress testing (with and without imaging), tilt-table testing, ECGs, Holter and long-term monitoring.
- Performs, interprets, and maintains privileges in a minimum of 3 of the following credentialed advanced cardiac imaging modalities: advanced structural and interventional echocardiography (including 4D, intracardiac echocardiography) in the operating room and cardiac cath lab, nuclear cardiology, cardiac CT, and/or cardiac MRI.
- Performs multimodality imaging studies on a routine basis alongside other assignments.
- Participates in the training and education of the technical and nursing personnel in cardiac imaging.
- Provides call support for the Division of Cardiology.
- Performs assigned administrative duties.
- Participates in or supports the Division of Cardiology research activities.
- Participates in divisional, departmental, and institutional taskforces and committees.
- Participates in the development and execution of curricula for cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students.
- Collaborates with the Department of Radiology in developing and implementing new workflows and imaging protocols pertaining to advanced cardiac imaging.
- Maintains board certification status in cardiovascular medicine and relevant cardiac imaging boards.
- Performs quality improvement initiatives in cardiac imaging across CCH.
- Participates in cardiac imaging laboratories accreditation processes.
- Performs emergency assignments and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited medical school or university or foreign equivalent.
- Must be licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois or obtain Illinois physician licensure prior to starting employment.
- Must be cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services by start of employment.
- Successful completion of a three (3) year Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship in a training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Cardiovascular Medicine subspecialty prior to starting employment or must attain Board Certification status within two (2) years of starting this employment.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in a minimum of three (3) of the following Cardiac Imaging Boards: National Board of Echocardiography (NBE), Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC), Certification Board of Cardiac Computed Tomography (CBCCT), and/or Certification Board of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CBCMR) or obtain Board Certification in a minimum of three (3) of the aforementioned credentialed advanced cardiac imaging modalities within two (2) years after starting employment.
- Achieved COCATS Level III training in a minimum of 3 out of 4 credentialed cardiac imaging modalities completing AND one (1) year or more of advanced cardiac imaging fellowship training program beyond cardiovascular medicine fellowship training.
OR
Achieved COCATS Level II training in a minimum of 3 out of 4 credentialed cardiac imaging modalities AND a minimum of two (2) years of independent practice experience in these modalities.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of and skilled in the practice of inpatient and outpatient Cardiovascular Medicine and various non-invasive cardiology studies.
- Knowledge of and skilled in the acquisition, supervision, and interpretation 3 out of 4 Advanced Multimodality Cardiac Imaging Studies that require special privileges at CCH: advanced structural and interventional echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac CT, cardiac MRI.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow divisional, departmental, and institutional work and personnel rules.
- Demonstrates attention to details and precision in decision making.
- Ability to provide quality care to patients.
- Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices.

- Ability to follow hospital protocols when exposed to noise, chemicals, disease, blood borne pathogens, patient violence and procedural injuries.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to meet appropriate confidentiality standards for Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Ability to provide appropriate patient care while maintaining fiduciary responsibility to patients.
- Ability to demonstrate service to public health and underserved populations.
- Must be able to travel to work sites throughout CCH.
