JOB TITLE: Sr. Research Scientist - Bio-Threats

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide SME (Subject Matter Expert) support for this project focused on seeking answers to emerging bio-intelligence and bio-security threats. This includes developing new ways to collect, detect, analyze, and prevent traditional bio-threats while also addressing the new opportunities and vulnerabilities associated with the advancing fields of biotechnology and synthetic biology. Expertise in some of these areas, as well as an interest to develop expertise in the remaining areas is required. Focus areas of Subject Matter Expertise of Candidate - bio-defense, bio-intelligence, bio-threats, synthetic biology, analytical instrumentation, molecular biology, fieldwork, sample collection, bio-informatics, and/or machine learning/artificial intelligence as relevant to the research and development topics associated with bio-security and bio-intelligence.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in biology, synthetic biology, molecular biology, bio-informatics, genomics, and/or analytical biology or a closely related field.
- At least 5+ years of relevant post-graduate technical expertise, 10+ for a master’s degree holder, in bio-defense, synthetic biology, analytical instrumentation, molecular biology, fieldwork, sample collection, bio-informatics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated in depth experience/technical knowledge of one or more bio-defense, bio-intelligence, or bio-security components.
- At least 3+ years’ project management experience and proficiency in project management principles relevant to government research and development programs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience supporting or working within an Advanced Research or lower technology readiness level USG component driving biological research and development.
- Previous experience supporting the Intelligence Community or Defense communities.
- Ability to write concisely; persuasive speaking/writing skills; ability to accurately convey technical and scientific issues to people with varying levels of expertise.
