Your impact
Handshake is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead our Product Analytics function. You will guide a team of Data Scientists to provide insights that drive data-informed decisions in the Product Development process. This role involves close collaboration with leads in Product Management, Design, Engineering, and Business Operations to develop and execute our analytics roadmap and strategy for our three-sided marketplace, serving students, employers, and universities.
Your role
- Lead, mentor, and empower a team of data scientists
- Oversee the team’s efforts in reporting, analytics, and experimentation for Product at Handshake
- Collaborate with Data, Product, and Engineering leaders to define a long-term vision for the Product Analytics team and translate it into actionable quarterly roadmaps
- Contribute directly to analytics work when needed, acting as a player-coach and thought partner to team members
- Partner with Product and Engineering Leadership to establish best practices and processes for Product Development with the goal of enabling product engineering teams to self serve for basic analytics tasks
- Shape the mission, technical direction, and culture of the Data Science and Analytics team
- Work with Relevance, Analytics Engineering, and Data Engineering teams on high-impact data projects
Your experience
- Prior experience as a data scientist or related function, including past experience in a managerial role
- Strong technical expertise in Product Analytics and statistical methodologies (A/B Testing)
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and other disciplines at both leadership and operational levels
- Passion for developing and coaching team members
- Commitment to team members’ well-being
- Experience in creating and delivering long-term strategies, projects, and hiring plans.
- Expertise in SQL and Python
- Excellent communication skills, including listening, synthesis, advocacy, and evangelism
