FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt
REPORTS TO: Building and Grounds Director
CLASS SUMMARY: This is a lead level classification that is responsible for providing lead level oversight for a district facility. Specific duties include performing general maintenance and repairs to a school district facility. Incumbents also are responsible for providing lead level direction to other custodial staff. Weekend Boiler/Building checks on a rotation basis required.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Serves as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction.
- Performs general maintenance both inside and outside a school facility to include checking and maintaining boilers and other equipment, performing basic repairs, completing preventative maintenance, maintaining lawns and other exterior areas; and removing snow.
- Performs general cleaning both inside and outside a school facility to include cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, and other related duties.
- Receives and completes work orders as needed.
- Establishes and monitors implementation of procedures for building operations, which include identifying needs, developing procedures in consultation with the Building and Grounds Director and/or building principal, and enforcing implementation of procedures.
- Identifies health and safety concerns and makes arrangements in consultation with the Building and Grounds Director and/or building principal to address safety issues.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; and two years of general maintenance experience; or,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
- Pool maintenance license required
- Boilers license is required
KNOWLEDGE:
- General computer knowledge;
- General custodial principles and practices;
- Inventory maintenance principles;
- General maintenance principles;
- Relevant health and safety code issues;
- Grounds equipment, e.g., mowers, snow plows, blowers, and lifts.
SKILLS:
- Assigning and monitoring work;
- Performing preventative maintenance;
- Maintaining inventory of supplies;
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Positions in this class typically require: balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, dusts, gasses, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
