Summary
This position is located in the Office of Enforcement, in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The Office of Enforcement's mission is to effectively and consistently enforce Federal consumer financial laws to protect consumers from harm. The employee performs assignments that require extensive research, analysis, and obtaining and evaluating of expert testimony or information in controversial or other highly technical areas of consumer financial law.
Responsibilities
The following are the duties of this position at the CN-71, broadly equivalent to the GS-15. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Attorneys at CFPB may be eligible for promotions subject to the Bureau's Attorney Hiring & Promotion Policy.
- Lead the largest, most difficult, complex, significant and precedent-setting enforcement matters.
- Develop and implement investigation strategy, such as the use of informal and formal requests for information, civil investigative demands, and witness interviews.
- Investigate potential violations of federal consumer financial laws with regard to a variety of consumer financial products and services. Analyze facts, determine legal theories, and make recommendations regarding initiation of enforcement actions.
- Prepare memoranda of fact and law and policy analyses, advise for or against action in areas of concern, often involving analysis of extremely difficult and controversial issues with few legal or policy precedents. Review the work of other attorneys in those areas, ensuring quality and consistency of legal advice rendered.

If you are selected at the CN-60 your official job title will be: Attorney-Advisor (Enforcement Attorney).
- Travel Required: Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.
- Promotion Potential: Applicants will be selected at any one of the advertised grades based on experience and accomplishments. Candidates may be considered for promotion in accordance with Bureau policy, which does not guarantee advancement to the next grade level.
