About the role:
As a member of Takeda Oncology, as a Vice President, your work will contribute to our bold, inspiring vision: We aspire to cure cancer. As the Head of US Oncology Patient Value and Access, you will lead a best-in-class organization that works proactively with Payers to underscore the value of the Takeda Oncology portfolio and develop innovative solutions that ensure patient access to Takeda therapies. As a key member of the Senior US Oncology Leadership team, the Head of US Oncology Patient Value and Access has responsibility for the entire US Takeda Oncology portfolio and pipeline. Additionally, the Head of Patient Value and Access for the US Oncology Business Unit (US OBU), you will lead and direct the creation and delivery of strategies and business plans that meet the evolving payer, provider and patient needs. As the leader, you will have overall strategic and operational responsibly for all market access functions for the oncology business in the US, including but not limited to:
- Provide an expert, strategic view on the evolving environment and competitive access landscape to inform the business unit’s strategy and mid-range planning. identify, develop, prioritize and execute initiatives that will accelerate growth of short- and-long term performance. Development of payer and provider reimbursement strategies and tactics for in-line and new products.
- Leadership of field teams calling on all payer segments and provider offices.
- Development of pricing and payer contracting strategies for all Oncology brands.
- Oversight of all trade and distribution strategies.
How you will contribute:
- Develop reimbursement strategies and drive the execution of the US access and ownership of pricing strategy for all Takeda Oncology and Innovative Medicines.
- Build and lead a high performing team by attracting and retaining individuals through effective coaching and feedback to ensure team has negotiation capabilities and current landscape knowledge.
- Develop an evidence-based plan, informed by market research and advisory boards to identify core customer needs, optimize patient access for Takeda oncology therapies.
- Collaborate on the development of value driven optimal pricing strategies and oversee implementation of pricing activities consistent with the strategy including contracting strategies.
- Develop and lead market access strategy for all payer segments in the US, including but not limited to: Medicare national (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services [CMS]), Medicaid (state and managed), Medicare Part B regional carriers, Medicare Part C managed care, Medicare Part D drug plans, all third party commercial payer, including health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and preferred provider organizations (PPOs), Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), and integrated delivery network payers.
- Effectively navigate matrix in order to develop and strengthen collaboration with other functional areas and market access colleagues in order to drive alignment, consistency where appropriate, best practice sharing, and flawless implementation of all market access activities. Specifically, work collaboratively with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Government Affairs, Finance, and Insight & Analytics to maximize value and opportunity for Takeda oncology products with payers in the US, to ensure relevant market and political insights are obtained and utilized when formulating the product market access strategies, and to develop core value dossier and health economic models, including but not limited to value framework and budget impact models.
- Direct VA/DOD strategy, contract performance and staff responsible for national PBM, all Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs), and comprehensive cancer centers.
- Ensure core access strategies are developed for assets in Business Development and assets in early development through commercialization and throughout the lifecycle of the product. Work with members of the commercial team to refine the brand commercialization and lifecycle plans. Lead the market access component of annual brand planning.
- Monitor external environment and synthesize input to advise U.S. Leadership Team and other critical cross-functional leaders (e.g., Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, WW Access, Business Insights & Analytics, Advocacy) on key U.S. access policies and reimbursement practices affecting corporate objectives, quantify risks and opportunities, and make recommendations for action.
- Partner with Takeda Government Affairs function in Washington. Oversee OBU government liaisons that work closely with Takeda US DC group and State field team to ensure that issues important to the oncology business are adequately addressed.
- Provide strategic direction, planning, and execution for all federal payment issues within the US Oncology Business Unit; and build and strengthen relationships with key federal payment agencies including CMS, MedPAC, VA, DoD, CMMI, NDQ, etc.
- Perform policy analytics, insights, actuarial, outcome probability, and RWD commercial analytics for key proposed payment changes and risk-share contracting.
- Direct and lead the field-based National Payer Accounts and Regional Executive Accounts Teams. Align the team across priority payer and physician accounts. Ensure that all market access personnel have expertise in the account management process, tools to succeed, and metrics for success.
- Increase the impact of US OBU Payer field teams with prioritized access segments and customers.
- Manage Field Access Director team supporting physician office reimbursement access issues; support Takeda oncology sales by driving access.
- Develop incentive programs and competency models for the US PVA team that are aligned with performance objectives and develop metrics to assess individual and team performance.
- Represent Takeda Oncology externally with key customer associations, COA, Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), etc. Work with leadership at organizations to ensure that Takeda Oncology is well positioned and maximizes influence.
- Increase customer understanding of evolving access environment and landscape, and drive focus on stakeholder-relevant measures, including QoL, economic benefits, and budget impact.
- Develop committed, effective support via reimbursement services and affordability programs and Hubs with the goal of expediting time to therapy, so that appropriate patients obtain access to Takeda Oncology therapies.
- Oversee state society strategy and tactics; maximize relationships with key states to drive initiatives that support the oncology business.
- Work cross-functionally with Global Pricing and Market Access team and Global Outcomes Research (GOR) to develop product specific evidence development plans, determine and drive priorities and needs for the US payer customers, and conduct and publish necessary economic and quality of life studies.
- Work cross-functionally with Operations to maintain a customer relationship management (CRM) system for market access function that includes metrics/dashboards to assess performance of Company products and team across Medicare, Medicaid, VA/DOD, and third party payers.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Business, Health Policy Management or related fields preferred.
- Deep understanding of the biopharmaceuticals industry in oncology therapeutics; commercial leadership experience critical.
- Minimum of 15 years of related experience with proven product commercialization experience and progressive managerial and leadership responsibility. Reimbursement, and HEOR.
- Demonstrated ability to change payer perception of a market and, in particular, to establish unmet needs and drive value perception.
- Experience and in-depth knowledge in obtaining reimbursement with third party commercial payers, Medicare Parts D and B, Medicaid, VA/DOD, integrated payer healthcare systems.
- Demonstrated track record of leading and managing high performing, cross-functional teams or complex organizations successfully.
- Expert understanding and experience implementing provider focused reimbursement strategies, tactics, and support.
- Strong understanding of, and experience with, innovative pricing models. Proven expertise in pricing and pricing methodology.
- Proven ability to conduct influential value evidence generation.
- Proven ability to manage home office and field base teams, as well as operate with and influence senior-most members of the global oncology organization.
- Launch experience in multiple specialty product markets.
- Relevant experience with injectable buy and bill product and oral products required.
- Relevant experience with hematology/oncology.
- Executive leadership and influencing, strategic planning and organization, decision making, change management, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively convey strategic and technical market access information/issues to executives and access staff.

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$252,000.00 - $396,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
