Head of Materials and Borrower Services, Westwood Public Library (Westwood)
Materials and Borrower Services functions as the face of the Library, i.e., the staff most directly responsible for providing Library visitors with memorable hospitality, outstanding customer service, and an impactful positive experience. The Head of Materials and Borrower Services creates meaningful connections just as much as they manage the circulation of Library materials.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Directs the daily operations of the Materials and Borrower Services Department, including acquiring, organizing, cataloging, processing and maintaining the Library collection.
- Supervises and trains staff in all procedures of circulation desk and automated functions, such as Automated Materials Handler, self-checkout kiosks, and other technologies.
- Helps patrons and staff with troubleshooting various technologies and applications when requested.
- Plans and implements all aspects of public service, including scheduled desk hours, shelving materials, and processing/cataloging new materials.
- Creates a welcoming and customer-focused environment while exploring new and creative ways to serve the community.
- Assists Library Director in hiring staff; completes annual staff evaluations for Senior Library Assistants and Library Assistants.
- Responsible for determining and applying loan rules to the Westwood Library collection.
- Oversees Museum Pass Online Reservation System; updates and adds new pass information.
- Generates reports necessary for collection maintenance, analyzes information and acts to improve collection database accuracy when necessary.
- Coordinates with other Library staff in setting Library policies and procedures related to ordering, organizing, and circulating Library materials.
- Plans and implements procedures for both Circulation and Processing/Cataloging materials.
Qualifications
M.L.S. from an A.L.A.-accredited institution. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Library operations and 3 years’ supervisory experience. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of Public Library operations. Complete familiarity with automated Library systems and related applications. Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Excellent public relations skills. Proven track record interacting with all members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner, being respectful of such tenets as equity, diversity and inclusion, intellectual freedom, literacy, and patron privacy.

Salary Notes
35 hours per week. Requires 1 evening shift per week and a Saturday rotation. Attractive benefit package.
