We are looking for a cross-functional experienced Art Director to join our retail experience team.
As the Art Director for Retail Design, your role is to help develop captivating concepts for windows and in-store visual merchandising that align with brand identity, seasonal themes, and promotional campaigns. You will help to drive creative executions and assist with designing exceptional 2D and physical 3D materials for retail. You will also be involved with branding, retail signage, sales and marketing materials, presentations, seasonal campaigns, printed collateral, 3D conceptual window displays, and digital executions.
This is a hybrid role in Mountain View/Bay Area
2-3 office days per week in Mountain View
Key Responsibilities
- Develop captivating concepts that align with brand identity, seasonal themes, and promotional campaigns.
- Create detailed designs, sketches, and mood boards to visualize concepts and communicate ideas to the team.
- Collaborate with other team members such as Photo Art Directors, Designers, Producers, and Production to bring concepts to life.
- Maintain brand consistency in all visual and retail content, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and overall aesthetic.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to communicate gaps and needs, working through solutions and proposing alternatives (i.e., UI vs lifestyle).
- Provide creative direction to agency partners.
- Work with a larger creative team to obtain key messaging and objectives.
- Confidently and articulately present visually appealing and well-reasoned design concepts to stakeholders.
- Think conceptually with a keen eye for design and the ability to execute and iterate on designs self-sufficiently and quickly.
- Solid working knowledge of graphic design programs, typography, composition, color proofing, print processes, prototype reviews, and project specs.
- Be a strong design generalist with the ability to wear many creative hats.
Knowledge, Skills + Experience
- BA/BS in Graphic Design or related field.
- In lieu of a degree, 7+ years relevant art direction and design experience with an agency and/or retail industry.
- Experience with creative projects for retail, consumer brands, or marketing campaigns.
- Portfolio demonstrating proficiency in delivering effective creative ideas across print, art direction, and digital with a modern aesthetic.
- Ability to solve complex design problems and strategically approach solutions.
- Ability to design concepts through to implementation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of and comfortability being in a client-facing environment.
- Experience working in a highly iterative, collaborative environment.
- Experience engaging with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Experience with UI patterns, systems, grids, typography, identity, motion design, and brand principles.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, and Figma.
- Experience preparing files for both print and digital assets across multiple platforms.
- Self-starter and effective problem solver who thrives in ambiguous and fast-paced environments.
- Flexible and adaptive to the changing needs of the business.
For Mountain View, CA applicants: The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $165,000 annually. Actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, certifications, and work location. This range may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus targets, benefits, and/or other applicable incentives.
