Senior Software Engineer, In-Person Payments (IPP) Team
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the In-Person Payments team in Chicago. This team is part of Adyen's Payment Solution, developing a new chapter of payment solutions like Tap to Pay on iPhone. We believe in the future where payments mean less hardware, flexibility, and mobility during checkout. Our ambition is to build the most customer-focused software so businesses can use any device to take payments anywhere in the world.
As a Senior Java Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing more substantial technical changes and mentoring Software Engineers I and II. You will also work closely with the product team to understand the scope of changes for our merchants and tackle security and compliance challenges.
What you'll do
- You will bring a new perspective on best engineering practices, improvements, and opportunities.
- You will lead complex technical projects from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing, and launch into production.
- You will be hands-on and contribute to the implementation while offering technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
- You will mentor and guide engineers to improve their technical skills and make informed decisions.
- You will work from the office at least three days per week.
Who you are
- You have at least 7 years of professional experience as an engineer and are currently working as a Senior Software Engineer or at a similar level.
- You have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, adapting quickly to changing priorities and unforeseen challenges.
- You will raise the bar on the software creation process, system design, reliability, testing, and general problem-solving beyond your team.
- You have great communication skills and can articulate complex technical vision and strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You are skilled at collaborating with various people, including senior leaders, Product Managers, Android Engineers, iOS Engineers, Kotlin Engineers, and other Software Engineers.
Required technical qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of building Java-based web services (RESTful, SOAP)
- Experienced in designing performant database models in PostgreSQL or other relational databases
- Knowledgeable of various software architecture paradigms such as event-driven or message queueing systems
