About this Role:
The Director of Estimating supports and operationalizes the mission of PAR West’s pre-construction efforts by working closely with regional management teams to train and develop a team of estimating professionals. The Director of Estimating leads a team in the development of cost estimates and technical proposals for overhead distribution, transmission, substation and other electrical utility construction projects. The Director of Estimating is responsible for developing and implementing estimating processes, tools, standards, and training in line with organizational objectives.
- This position can be worked out of either our Rancho Cucamonga, Vacaville, or Escondido, CA offices.
What You'll Do:
- Direct all activities with respect to estimating quality, execution, planning, staffing, consistency, and systems training.
- Lead the request for proposal (RFP) preparation and evaluations, project specifications, and pricing schedules for the company.
- Partner with senior leadership, regional management, and operations to align on company strategy.
- Partner with the projects team in scoping projects for engineering, construction, and contractual requirements.
- Lead the preparation of pre-approval project estimates based on limited information and general scopes of work, often lacking specific precedence.
- Manage the development of detailed post-approval project estimates based on company standards and site-specific facility drawings.
- Perform material take-offs and cost analyses to support estimates.
- Manage personnel and provide an environment for the development and professional advancement of staff members.
- Organize and prioritize a variety of complex projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Assist with the development of pricing schedules and weighting criteria for proposal evaluations.
- Provide expert judgment of costs to support competitive bids and negotiated contracts.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by regional or project management.
What You'll Bring:
- 10+ years of estimating experience in the heavy civil or utility construction space.
- Proven track record of successful managerial experience.
- Knowledge of local utilities, their business practices, and processes.
- Knowledge of design, estimating, construction, finance, and management.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, scaling, legends, etc.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to anticipate and meet internal customer needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards and activities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Effective communication (oral, written, presentation, listening).
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).

Compensation Range:
The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $190,000.00/Yr. - USD $235,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
