Job Description
The department of History, Law, and Society at Nevada State University invites applications for three tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice.
About Criminal Justice at Nevada State:
Criminal Justice serves a student population of approximately 300 majors and minors. The program provides students with a foundation of criminal justice courses while incorporating social justice issues. We are seeking expertise and/or teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: legal issues, criminology, and statistics and research methods. Please be familiar with our course offerings and indicate which courses or areas you have experience teaching or are willing to teach.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach 24 credits per academic year, equaling four courses per semester (fall and spring).
- Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Criminal Justice in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online).
- Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.
- Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Criminology or Criminal Justice (Candidates who are ABD are eligible with the expectation that the Ph.D. will be completed by July 31, 2025).
- Evidence of strong commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with undergraduates.
- Demonstrated commitment to, or interest in, working with a diverse, non-traditional, first-generation student population.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity and/or experience with Canvas learning management system.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: legal issues, criminology, and statistics and research methods.
Rank, Salary & Benefits:
9-month. Tenure track. Budgeted salary for this position is $64,000. Nevada State University offers excellent benefits, including 17.50% retirement match, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 12 paid holidays, educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
