JOB SUMMARY:
LOCATION: STROGER & PROVIDENT (FLOATS) TRAUMA ANESTHESIA - SHIFT: 6:30AM - 4:30PM Rotating
The APN-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, is responsible for the administration of anesthetic agents and adjuvants to patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical and obstetrical procedures across Cook County Health (CCH), including John H. Stroger, JR. Hospital and Provident Hospital. The APN-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is also expected to make preoperative rounds, to evaluate the adequacy of the preparation of the patient for the anticipated anesthesia and surgery; and similarly, to make postoperative visits to monitor the patient's recovery from anesthesia. In collaboration with an attending anesthesiologist, the incumbent makes preoperative visits to evaluate the adequacy of a patient's preparation for anesthesia and surgery. Based on this evaluation, the incumbent suggests a primary plan of anesthetic management and also outlines an alternative plan in case the primary plan cannot be carried out. In addition, the APN-Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is responsible for explaining the risks and benefits of both the primary and alternative anesthetic plans to the patient and to the patient's family and obtains an informed consent from the patient (or the patient's guardian).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Master's Degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program OR eligibility to complete Master's Degree at an accredited nurse anesthesia program two weeks prior to starting employment (Must provide original copy of college or university transcript OR a letter from program director or designee stating eligibility status to graduate at the time of interview). Current State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia certificate is required by the first day of employment.
- Current State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia certificate is required OR the ability to obtain State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and CRNA certification two weeks prior to starting employment.
- Must possess progressive experience and advanced knowledge in a specialized area of clinical nursing.
- Must possess an active CPR card or have the ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
- Must possess an active Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or have the ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
- Must possess an active Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or have the ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current experience and applied knowledge of all anesthetic agents and adjuvants, all anesthesia machines, instruments and monitoring equipment used in the administration of anesthesia, as well as practical experience in providing all types of anesthesia.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge to provide anesthesia services, including but not limited to monitored anesthesia care, regional, and general anesthesia.
- Knowledge of anesthesia and related pharmacology agents to provide anesthesia services including but not limited to general, local, monitored anesthesia care and regional anesthesia.
- Ability to work any shift.
VETERAN PREFERENCE

MUST MEET REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION
Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health to include a State of Illinois APN license and any other license, certification or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date.
