The Chief Nursing Officer provides management leadership, supervision and vision for all nursing professional services, technical and support services for hospital operations to achieve quality patient care consistent with the mission and goals for the hospital, approved by the Board.
Performs fiscal and operational management of functional reporting areas, including critical care/emergency services, medical/emergency services, surgical services, acute inpatient services, pediatric services, radiation, oncology, accreditation and others. Participates in continuing education activities necessary to maintain executive leadership astuteness.
Your Everyday
- Problem Solving/Decision Making:
- Supervises and actively participates in various functions of the nursing division.
- Provides management support to leaders, staff and supervisors. Serves as resource in managing, coordinating and advising staff to facilitate achievement of planned goals.
- Appraises functions performed and services provided in relation to planned goals and promptly takes necessary corrective actions.
- Establishes and maintains open dialogue with key physician leaders. Works with medical staff to achieve the medical center's goals, mission and values.
- Establishes and maintains methods, procedures for controlling deviations from budgets and/or planned goals.
- Participates in the development of and/or recommends hospital policies, budgets and programs responsive to health care needs of the community.
- Monitors projects through completion, on time and within budget.
- Participates or leads performance improvement projects.
- Allocates adequate resources, information systems and data management processes for measuring, assessing, improving hospital's performance and for improving patient safety.
- Sets and evaluates measurable objectives for improving hospital performance and improving patient safety.
- Provides for staff training in the basic approaches to and methods of performance improvement and improvement of patient safety.
- Assigns personnel needed to allocate time required for them to participate in performance improvement activities and activities to improve patient care.
- Continues to develop and implement recruitment and retention plans in conjunction with human resources.
- Completes assigned projects within designated time frame.
- Keeps leadership and other key individuals informed of important issues.
- Communicates with all levels of management, operating personnel and physicians to enhance their understanding of the role importance, assigned department's projects, programs and functions.
- Compliance with Laws/Regulations:
- Responsible for ensuring that all supervised employees comply with the medical center, state and parish regulations, policies and procedures, including internal as well as external continuing education.
- In dealing with regulatory agencies and government agencies, represents the medical center both professionally and ethically at all times.
- Discharges compliance responsibilities with regards to the medical center's compliance program, JCAHO satisfactorily and keeps the leadership updated on relevant issues.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 - 10 Years COO or equivalent/ CNO or associate CNO/ 5 years clinical quality management
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Certification Name: Registered Nursing License
- Required
- Issuer: Louisiana State Board of Nursing
- Licensure Specialty: Licensure
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of performance improvement, outcomes and quality management, case management, utilization management, discharge planning, social work, medical staff activities, infection control surveillance and reporting.
- Knowledge of Department of Health, state and federal standards, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization standards and survey process.
- Ability to interpret and process data in an analytical manner.
- Computer operational skills and understanding of database systems.
- Knowledge of Medical Staff Credentialing processes.
- Demonstrates good judgment in problem solving, assembling data and planning to action to achieve objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to organize, formulate, educate and facilitate problem solving teams.
- Ability to leverage data to lead change.
