About this role:
The Senior Director, Scientific Affairs will oversee the Scientific Affairs and Communication group within the Clinical Organization in service of multiple divisions across Cardiology. This position will drive the strategy and execution of clinical publications, presentations and medical education and work closely with clinical trial teams on evidence generation strategy. This role leads a team to create accurate, compelling, and timely communications to maximize the understanding and amplification of clinical evidence in support of Cardiac Rhythm Management. Your role monitors industry activity to identify the clinical and educational needs of our customers. You will interface with a wide variety of cross-functional areas to assess clinical data landscape, gaps, and opportunities, and provide the organization with publication strategy, educational recommendations, and related activities to establish, enhance or amplify therapy effectiveness within the rhythm management community. You will partner closely with teams and cross-functional leadership to set strategic direction for deliverables and assure required capabilities are identified and developed.
This is a hybrid position (in office minimum three days per week) with the flexibility to be located in Arden Hills or Maple Grove, MN or Marlborough, MA. You will have the opportunity to discuss your preferred working location with your Talent Acquisition Specialist.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee clinical evidence content development, publication and preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, slide and poster presentations related to BSC-sponsored clinical trials, registries, and preclinical studies.
- Supervise creation of slides with clinical evidence content for KOL engagement and medical education materials. Support internal education of such clinical evidence updates, as needed.
- Guides Scientific Communications team in development and implementation of strategic evidence maps and communication plans with direct collaboration and alignment with Franchise Leadership Teams and cross-functional partners. Oversees the development and implementation of the BSC global publication plan in direct support of Franchise-level evidence plans. Delivers key topics of interest and provides counsel to ISR Committee in review of research grant proposals to align with identified priority evidence needs.
- Provides direction on company objectives and business needs to Scientific Affairs and Communications team.
- Serves as liaison with other BSC businesses and senior management to establish policies, procedures/SOPs, and cross-functional interactions.
- Works closely with key opinion leaders to drive strategy and content of clinical publications and presentations.
- Interacts with marketing and other groups outside Medical Affairs to ensure that clinical data are represented accurately in slide sets and other materials prepared by the team.
- Determines medical writing resource needs, medical affairs content resource needs, allocation of resources, budget, and staffing.
- Oversight of investigator-initiated research (ISR) portfolio and committee.
Required qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Technical Communications or in a related technical discipline (Bio-medical, medical, clinical, etc.)
- Minimum of 10 years of related work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical writing and peer-reviewed publications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading and managing a global team
- Minimum of 5 years of experience presenting and discussing clinical data with physicians
- Clinical and scientific acumen, with an interest in and ability to understand and to communicate scientific data
- Proven ability to interact and represent the Company with KOL-level customers – physicians, clinicians, scientists
- Travel requirements: Up to 15%
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Science or Technical Communications or a related technical discipline
- Prior experience with cardiac and electrophysiology therapies preferred
