Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
Under the direction of the Director of Student Academic Success, the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Manager will assist the Director of Student Academic Success with determining student eligibility for accommodations and work to develop updated accessibility services, testing policies, procedures, and schedules in response to campus demands.
The SAS Manager functions as a moderately experienced professional who will help in determining reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities. Work is completed with a moderate level of independence under the direction of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs. While overseeing compliance with ADA policy, provide training to CDU’s Colleges, offer support services, identify needed assistive technology, and provide updated procedures in response to campus demands.
This position serves the Student Affairs Department by collaborating with the Director of SAS & Director of Student Academic Success to:
- Provide high-quality services to help students succeed and have an excellent program experience.
- Provide administrative support to directors, faculty, and other duties to serve all college programs.
This position will require the individual to work onsite.
Budgeted Salary: $71,928 - $94,000
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the scheduling for Accessibility test proctoring for other departments including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training temporary Accessibility staff.
- Assist with providing consultation to faculty and administration regarding access to facilities, technology, and instructional programs.
- Maintain necessary and appropriate records and data related to program funding as required by MIS reporting and other regulatory agencies.
- Conduct student intake interviews involving students with disabilities.
- Act as a first-line responder to student and faculty issues and concerns regarding accommodations and services.
- Plan, organize, control and direct Disabled Students Programs and Services operations and activities.
- Assist with the coordination and direct Disabled Students Programs and Services.
- Apply working knowledge of access issues for people with disabilities as they relate to physical and digital environments.
- Develop and maintain relations with campus departments, community agencies, and national organizations.
- Assist with providing informed updates regularly with the Director through status reports and Disability Specialist meetings.
- Assist with developing Accessibility training for pre-clinical and clinical settings.
- Oversee the coordination and scheduling of test dates and times for students with accommodations.
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports and make recommendations for programmatic improvements.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

EDUCATION:
- A Master's degree in disability studies, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; and fifteen-semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, including, but not limited to:
- Learning disabilities;
- Developmental disabilities;
- Deaf and hearing impaired;
- Physical disabilities;
- Adapted computer technology;
- Valid CA driver’s license and proof of insurance.
EXPERIENCE:
- Advanced degree in Counseling/Clinical Psychology, Special Education, or Disabilities Studies.
- 1-3 years in a Higher Education setting conducting analysis and determination of academic accommodations.
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to serving students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 related to academic accommodations in a post-secondary environment.
- Strong knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws.
- Demonstrated knowledge of disability classifications, ADA/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and current related legislation.
- Knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques involved in specialties like learning disorders and mobility disabilities.
SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, faculty, staff, and leaders.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and administrative skills.
- Skill to communicate with instructors regarding a student's accommodations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and typing at least 50 wpm.
- Strong verbal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

- The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this role.
