Job Description BAE Systems is looking for an experienced Guidance Navigation and Controls engineer to work with a team to solve complex problems and bring new technologies to market. This is an on-site position in Minneapolis working a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. The ability to obtain a Secret clearance is required for this position.
The GNC Engineer is a technical position performing complex guidance, navigation, and control design for precision guided munition systems. The GNC group's scope stretches across algorithm design, modeling and simulation, hardware-in-the-loop development, and flight test support.
In this role you will:
- Develop autopilot control laws for highly maneuverable airframes to maintain stability and execute guidance commands across a large flight envelope
- Create navigation solution estimation algorithms using extended Kalman filters and other sensor fusion techniques
- Design guidance algorithms that optimize trajectories for air defense and land attack missions
- Create and integrate models to represent airframe components (seekers, actuators, IMUs, etc.), external sensors, targets, environments, and other systems represented in a 6DOF flyout model
- Conduct flight system performance analysis and system effectiveness analysis
- Perform post flight reconstruction and analysis to verify system flight test performance and validate flight simulation models
- Develop, modify, and maintain software tools to evaluate nominal and off-nominal flight modes using Monte Carlo methods
- Prepare presentations, reports, research, documentation, and other contract deliverables related to designs, analyses, and tests performed
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related field with 6 or more years of experience; or Master's Degree with 4 or more years of experience in Guidance, Navigation, Controls or a similar engineering field.
- Proficiency in MATLAB.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field
- 6 or more years of work experience in GNC or a similar field
- Knowledge and experience in one or more related disciplines such as: seekers, guidance laws, navigation, autopilots, and 6DOF modeling
- Familiarity with version control / configuration management (Git, Subversion, etc.)
- Proficiency with C++
- Experience with Simulink and Stateflow
- Experience simulating projectile engagements for requirements analysis, stability analysis, and mission effectiveness analysis
- Experience developing, testing and delivering code for missile or other projectile systems
- Proven skills at developing, testing, and refining flight algorithms such as navigation filters, track filters, autopilot approaches, and guidance algorithms
- Current Secret Clearance
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $112420 - $191070
