About the Job:
Under the direction of the VP of Applications, the Director of Clinical Applications is responsible for, but not limited to, oversight of Summit’s clinical application stack including the EMR and related clinical applications. The Director of Clinical Applications will manage a team of clinical analysts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Implements enterprise application projects, directing requirements definition, development, validation, and ongoing maintenance activities. Planning, developing, supervising, and implementing IT projects utilizing established project management tools and techniques.
- Develops and manages budgets for software, staffing costs and other expenditures related to business, clinical and data analytics systems.
- Provides guidance, leadership and mentoring to employees in the IT Application department. Supports and develops the technical expertise needed to meet long-term business needs. Manages staff by reviewing, approving, and allocating work assignments and projects among staff.
- Assesses organizational needs and provides analysis of computer information systems, processes, and support. Works with the business to align company applications and data analytics with the needs of the business.
- Develops processes, procedures, and contracts for support, maintenance, and security of application systems.
- Works closely with Chief Information Security Officer, and Clinical Compliance team to ensure all systems and data are secure, meet all company and compliance standards, and applicable regulations.
- Communicates across divisions and coordinates with user and technical groups regarding applications, developing application solutions, determining system requirements and modification of systems.
- Plans labor, timelines, and objectives for application projects.
- Stays informed on industry and technology trends as they relate to healthcare applications.
- Performs quality assurance at technical and procedural levels.
- Compiles data and performs analysis. Provides written and oral reports and proposals to management.
- Maintains accurate and complete system and application documentation.
- Serves as the primary liaison between third-party application vendors.
- Coordinates and manages outside vendors, contract negotiations, licensing, maintenance contracts and service level agreements.
- Develops, documents, and maintains application systems back-up, disaster recovery, incident response, and business continuity procedures.
- Ensures that application support SLAs are met.
- Utilizes processes, standards, and project methodologies to ensure the business receives exceptional day-to-day operational support with minimal disruption during technology upgrades and implementations.
- Leads research and analysis of technology-based processes and systems for identified business objectives.
- Travels to other facilities within the company at the request of the supervisor or the VP of Information Technology.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related Information Technology field required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience providing oversight and/or direct management of applications for healthcare organizations, with substantial experience implementing and supporting multi-facility EMR systems.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications:
Technical certification preferred.
Supervisory Requirements:
Minimum three years supervisory experience preferred.
