Job Summary:
As a Sr. Attorney on the Employment team in the Legal and Compliance Department, you'll play a key role in supporting The Standard's efforts to comply with its labor and employment law obligations. You'll utilize your strong collaboration skills and expertise to offer advice and counsel to key stakeholders, help proactively identify and mitigate risk, and help achieve the Company's business goals. As a Sr. Attorney, you'll act as a mentor to members of your team, proactively initiate work that contributes to overall team success, and work collaboratively within and across teams to break down barriers and achieve goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and counsel regarding employment and labor law obligations, including, but not limited to, benefit issues (such as ERISA), leaves of absence, and accommodations.
- Act as a strategic business partner to a diverse set of stakeholders, including Management, and Human Resources.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of potential legislation and regulatory developments and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Draft and review various complex employment documents, including offer letters, employment agreements, executive agreements, separation agreements, and corporate policies.
- Draft, review, and revise compensation plans.
- Assist in development and maintenance of internal policies and procedures to support the growth of the Company.
- Effectively gather diverse sets of requirements from various stakeholders to synthesize and communicate information that supports informed decision-making.
- Produce quality, legally defensible legal product that accurately reflects stakeholders' intent.
- Act as a trusted partner by effectively formulating potential risks and outcomes, demonstrating holistic understanding of business goals and risks.
- Efficiently formulate accurate, comprehensive advice that is easily understandable and digestible to a variety of stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively within and across teams to break down barriers and achieve goals.
Skills and Background You'll Need:
Education:
Doctor of Jurisprudence and admitted to practice in state bar of residence or other relevant jurisdiction. Admitted to practice or willingness to become admitted to practice in the State of Oregon.
Experience:
- Minimum of six years of experience providing employment law advice and counsel required.
- Providing in-house employment law advice and counsel to a national employer (preferred).
- Merger & Acquisition activity experience (preferred).
- Advising life and disability insurance companies (preferred).
- Advising on executive compensation matters (preferred).
- Ability to develop and to deliver successful presentations to internal audiences.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.
Salary Range:
$145,750.00 - $214,250.00
