Responsible for the successful deployment, installation, and support of Nikon Instruments, Inc. custom system microscope products, including installation and on-site support of special-order custom-developed microscope imaging systems from Nikon Instruments.
This position requires a deep understanding of microscope imaging systems, and applied skills and knowledge of software and optomechanical components in both the validation and support of personalized system products.
This position works directly with the System Product and Development and Software Systems teams to deploy and support NII’s original products and Nikon Instruments microscope systems.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Provide on-site attention and support for Nikon instrumentation including customized instrumentation provided to end-users via the System Product and Development team to address specific customer needs not accessible by Nikon’s off-the-shelf portfolio of products.
- Have a deep working understanding of product needs of our customers as well as application and technical product aspects.
- Perform new hardware setup, testing, validation, and error checking and reporting at our Nikon Bio-imaging laboratories and customer sites.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of Quality Management of 3rd party and customized products prepared by the System Product and Development department.
- Assist in seeking out and establishing new vendor relationships for ancillary microscope systems products, particularly those that can be customized to enhance Nikon’s microscope systems.
- Interface with Nikon Product Managers to develop and market integrated systems products.
- Attend seminars and meetings salient to Nikon Instruments to seek out future products, conduct market research activities, and perform competitive analysis.
- Assist product management, software systems team, and software developers to install, train, and troubleshoot for Nikon’s developed products.
- Assist in the review and compliance with laws, regulations, and requirements for products sold in the NII territory and to worldwide locations, including maintenance and update of FDA CDRH laser safety certification for all locally designed Nikon Instruments products containing lasers.
- Installation, training, and/or troubleshooting of direct or contract engineering/designers’ optomechanical devices according to product development timelines.
- Maintain direct communications channels with developers and OEM engineering teams associated with systems products.
- Assist in the promotion and support of Nikon Instruments, Inc. original products for our domestic and worldwide partners.
- Provide the highest tier of product support, after other internal resources have been exhausted, with a focus on on-site support.
- Have a detailed working knowledge for installation and troubleshooting of microscope hardware.
- Work outside of normal hours of operation, as needed, in order to fulfill essential functions and responsibilities.
Ancillary responsibilities:
- Provide reports to the Senior Product and Research & Development Management as necessary.
- Collaborate with Nikon Instruments Centers of Excellence, Imaging Centers, Nikon Bioimaging Lab, and our worldwide Nikon Instruments companies.
- Prepare deliverables in the form of documents, tutorials, educational videos, courses, etc., for Nikon Instruments, Inc. customized system products.
- Assist in inventory and asset management with the senior product management team.
- All other duties as required or needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2 years in Project Management, Product Development, sales and/or service of microscope or optomechanical devices.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to drive, utilize public transportation, travel by air, including overnight hotel stays, up to ~50%.
- Ability to routinely travel to customers, vendor partners, company events, and trade shows/conferences.
- Ability to analyze data and information.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Ability to communicate information verbally and in writing so that others will understand.
- Ability to work outside of regularly scheduled work hours as needed.
- Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others in a team-selling environment and maintain them over time.

Compensation depends on a variety of factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, education, and location. The range for this position is $88,000-$113,000.
