The Area Director of Safety position is responsible for reducing motor vehicle accidents and work-related injuries, and ensuring OSHA and DOT compliance, through the development and advancement of a safety-first culture. The Area Director assists each Customer Service Center to professionally develop their safety and training staff. This position is the regional expert and will coordinate with field management to improve safety and training processes and provides leadership and direction for our safety programs.
Responsibilities:
- Assist each CSC Management team in developing vehicle accident and work-related injury prevention plans based on loss data and cause analysis
- Analyze KPI data and trends using large data platforms and systems to identify areas of focus
- Collaborate with area leadership teams and location personnel to address any identified areas of opportunity
- Develop and implement safety awareness programs
- Develop Safety Supervisor’s and Manager’s professional skills, including presentation, teaching, investigation, employee selection and evaluation
- Create cross-departmental relationships to meet the needs of the business
- Facilitate monthly calls with local area/region leadership teams to review current KPI performance, actions taken to prevent recurrence, provide updates to current initiatives/projects and share best practices
- Ensure area training program is consistent with requirements, including sufficient resources (trainers/trainee ratio and driver evaluator/master evaluators) meet the needs of the business
- Develop and implement safety communication and training programs
- Provide oversight of ELDT safety training with CSC management team in accordance with curriculum compliant with regulation
- Assist in the development of area/region leadership and local CSC management
- Collaborate with location teams and assist in training new safety committees
- Analyze the effectiveness of location coaches, local trainers, and evaluators to determine opportunities of improvement and recognition
- Identify and visit area locations based on needs, completing a facility review and debrief with location management team
- Conduct program audits as required by company policy
- Oversee implementation and on-going compliance of Company programs and government regulation
- Liaise with local team and federal regulators during onsite audits or inspections
- Conduct special projects as requested by the Vice President, Safety
- Other duties as assigned
Pay range for this position is $130,000-$155,000 annual salary.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Business, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 2 years of comprehensive safety or loss control experience in commercial passenger transportation
- Strong technical acumen: ability to learn technical products quickly and apply knowledge to daily tasks
- Ability to effectively present KPI metrics to multiple audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Experience with multi location fleet of 500 vehicles or larger, and safety programs involving 500 or more employees
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and training skills
- Must be able to travel; position requires approximately 50-75% field work
- Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional relationships
