Job Summary
The Sustainability Director leads the Office of Sustainability by managing and coordinating sustainability operations, planning, and reporting and supports academic, research, and student sustainability activities. This position manages implementation of the University’s sustainability projects, plans, and certifications (including UWM’s Climate Action Plan, STARS, etc.), data management and reporting (utilities), and operations (waste reduction, recycling, reuse, and surplus). Additionally, this position serves as a sustainability liaison, collaborating with UW System, UWM, and FPM leaders to manage and lead institutional sustainability efforts while fostering a campus culture of sustainability among students, faculty and staff. The Director will collaborate closely with the FPM Departments of Campus Planning, Facility Services, and Transportation Services to ensure sustainability initiatives are incorporated into planning, design, renovations, construction, and transportation services, whenever possible.
Work will be performed primarily on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with requests for remote work considered after the initial training period. Hybrid work options may be available with specifics regarding work location requirements discussed during the interview process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Minimum of 6 months supervisory experience of a sustainability program/department (including direct reports)
- Experience in managing environmental resources and issues
- Experience in budget management and resource alignment
- Experience working collaboratively to build purposeful partnerships
- Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Office programs and experience to design and maintain presentations and the UWM Sustainability website
- Excellent organizational skills, as demonstrated by experience in organizing the work of others, or organizing multiple or complex projects, managing multiple schedules and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of strategic planning and process improvement
- Experience in a higher education environment
- Ability to analyze resource consumption data
- Knowledge of recycling programs and waste reduction methods
- Knowledge and experience overseeing reuse programs, including surplus furniture and supplies programs
Target Salary Range
$90,000 per year to $100,000 per year. (Final salary offer will be determined based on knowledge, skills, and experience)
