Overview
E2 is looking for a senior-level Distribution Engineer to join our team in our greater Portland or Salt Lake City area to support several major electric utility clients. This role is responsible for the preparation and development of distribution voltage construction packages for both overhead and underground construction. Projects include, but are not limited to: Pole Replacements, Reconductoring, True Up Modifications, Equipment Upgrades, and Overhead-to-Underground conversions. The position will work under the direction of the Distribution Supervising Engineer or Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed design and construction packages of overhead and/or underground electric distribution projects to comply with the client's standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards.
- Significant knowledge of the design and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV).
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Design distribution projects with neatness and a small margin for error utilizing PLS-CADD, O-Calc, SPIDA-Calc, or PoleForeman software.
- Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Interface with project management and designers during the design phase.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with the supervising engineer, client, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Perform careful quality review activities of junior engineers to ensure the quality of work.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience working in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
- Excellent knowledge of electrical distribution systems and power flow.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Licensed Professional Engineer strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience with distribution design and construction standards for PacifiCorp.
- Ability to develop and maintain PLS-CADD model to support electric distribution design.
- Experience leading technical teams.
