Job Summary:
Provides technology management and commercialization support to assigned schools and colleges. Assists with harvesting of inventions, evaluation of new inventions, management of patent prosecution, drafting and negotiating of confidentiality agreements, and negotiations of options/licenses. The IP & Technology Manager will focus on marketing intellectual property to prospective licensees in the relevant areas assigned, as well as using different methods to understand the relevant technology to be licensed, the marketplace and potential licensees. Assists with promoting technologies, work in developing industry collaboration, and seeking funding opportunities for the further development and commercialization of technologies.
- Provides technology management and commercialization support to one or more Schools/Colleges within the University as may be assigned by the Director of the Office of Technology Management and Commercialization.
- Conducts training for faculty and other constituents related to intellectual property management and disseminates information to faculty, staff and students regarding technology management and commercialization.
- Assists with maintaining the database of intellectual property documents and intellectual property disclosure process.
- Ensures the completion of reports. Coordinates and performs compliance reporting to federal, state and private sponsors to intellectual property sponsors related to intellectual property management as may be required.
- Negotiates option and license agreements.
- Acts as liaison person between researchers/faculty, students, University stakeholders and commercial organizations.
- Assists with marketing and commercialization efforts of new technologies as needed and/or assigned.
- Contacts investigators for information related to IP. Assists with review of intellectual property disclosures as needed.
- Maintains the receipt of intellectual property legal documents, and responds to necessary IP processing actions as required.
- Coordinates with General Counsel's Office, and other university administrative offices on patent, copyright, commercialization and other related matters.
- Evaluates and assists in establishing new procedures or enhancement of existing procedures for technology management and commercialization.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Education in biomedical or health/life science related area, preferably a degree in biochemistry or biology, or biochemistry or biology.
- Relevant technology transfer experience as a licensing associate or related field is preferred.
- Experience with technology marketing and licensing agreement negotiations.
- Experience with reporting to Federal, State and private sponsors related to IP management.
- Experience collaborating with external stakeholders and industry partners.
