Thermo King is hiring a Controls & Model Based Design Senior Engineering Manager to join our team to lead a team of Engineering Professionals! This team is responsible for creating controls algorithms in Simulink and State Flow software that are integrated in our product software. Multiple concurrent programs need to be managed effectively to meet program schedules supporting multiple refrigeration and mobile HVAC applications. The team uses agile development processes to manage their work. The algorithms developed by this team drive the increased sustainability of our products, helping us meet our company’s goals. A successful candidate will be responsible for driving technology, architectural and other improvements in our product roadmap and processes that will impact the broader engineering organization. Additionally, the Controls & Model Based Design Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the team including recruiting new talent, mentoring team members, and promoting their careers, as well as directly contributing to algorithm development alongside their team members.

Where is the work:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite per week) based out of Minneapolis, MN.
What you will do:
- Lead a team of professionals with a diverse set of skills and backgrounds in the areas of refrigeration and controls theory.
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement for the team.
- Delegating tasks to the team and resources outside the team including organizing, mentoring, and motivating to create an environment for success.
- Working with the broader controls team to coordinate the Model Based Design work with the rest of the organization.
- Leading the Controls architecting activities and agile process improvement in coordination with the Controls Software Manager.
- Working with the program management team and the broader organization to plan and execute projects.
- Develop, document, simulate, and refine controls algorithms.
- Work directly with stakeholders (e.g., Product Management, Platform Engineering Teams, Firmware Teams doing code development, etc.) to align on the intent and impact of requirements and implementation options to deliver the best experience for the end customer, and mentor the team to do the same.
- Identify, develop, document key intellectual property related to unique product functionality through advanced control algorithm creation.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or relevant technical discipline) required.
- 10+ years’ experience in controls, electronics, systems engineering, or software engineering experience is required.
- Experience with Model Based Design processes and modeling & simulation of complex systems is required.
- Prior experience leading a product development team is highly desired.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Understanding of control system design including classical control knowledge required (PID control, linear control, digital filtering). Advanced control knowledge preferred (modern control theory, model predictive control, non-linear control, adaptive control, fuzzy logic).
- Demonstrated capability in controls algorithm development and documentation required, including day-to-day design implementation, successful stakeholder interface/negotiation, etc.
- Understanding of optimization techniques is preferred.
- Experience with Speedgoat rapid prototyping systems is preferred.
- Experience with Azure DevOps is desired.
- Experience with the Agile Software development process desired.
- Knowledge in compressors, engines or power electronics is a plus.
- Knowledge in refrigeration, vapor compression or thermodynamics/fluid dynamics is a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 10% including international travel.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $154,500 – 242,000
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan.
