Job Overview
We are actively seeking an experienced Principal System Planning Engineer to join our team. Candidates must live in and be able to report to the office in either Waltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY or Albany, NY.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Perform, lead, or facilitate engineering and transmission assessments and analyses
- Support and advise on production cost modeling, economic and regional market evaluations to assist in key strategic insights, identify or confirm project opportunities and solutions
- Apply innovative approaches to simulation and analysis that can help identify or support new initiatives
- Lead technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnerships
- Document, present and report findings and justifications
- Assist with preparing executive summaries or investment committee papers
- Support or lead on siting, permitting and licensing requirements and/or hearings, if required
- Oversee consultants, engineers or other subject matter experts as required to augment or complement the Business Development team
- Work in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across functions in the US and UK
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related technical fields
- Experience in transmission system analysis
- Ability to translate complex model outputs into business insight & articulate the impact of results
- Knowledge of US power industry standards, structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals
- Familiarity with recent trends and technologies in electric transmission, on-shore and off-shore wind, other large-scale renewable generation, energy storage, conventional generation and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen
- Strong track record of relevant professional experience in projects, including developing business cases, optioneering, data analysis, estimating and work structure planning
- Interest in offshore wind project development and execution
- Computational literacy including handling large data sets
- Fundamental understanding of the components of offshore and onshore transmission grid assets including key risks and opportunities is required
- Ability to develop tools and processes to facilitate best practice & knowledge sharing
The salary range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licenses and certifications; and other related skillsets.
