The Director of Applications is responsible for leading and managing a team of technical professionals in the development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise applications. This role requires strong technical expertise in SQL, Windows environments, and ERP systems, combined with leadership skills to drive innovation, manage complex projects, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet business needs.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of technical professionals, providing mentorship and guidance.
- Drive technical strategy and innovation within the Applications department.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning among team members.
Project Management
- Oversee and coordinate multiple application-related projects from inception to completion.
- Utilize project management tools (e.g., Jira) to track progress, manage resources, and ensure timely delivery of projects within scope and budget.
- Ensure projects align with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
Vendor Management
- Communicate effectively with vendors to troubleshoot issues and manage custom requests.
- Ensure vendor deliverables meet organizational needs and maintain strong vendor relationships.
Quality Assurance
- Lead and assist in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for various applications.
- Oversee application upgrades, bug fixes, and related UAT processes to ensure quality and functionality.
- Implement best practices in testing and deployment to maintain high standards.
Technical Tasks
- Develop and maintain custom scripts (e.g., SQL, C#) for application enhancements and process automation.
- Collaborate with vendors on specialized projects.
- Scope and implement workflow requests, coordinating with team members for testing and deployment.
- Create and maintain scripts for tasks such as importing stock counts for inventory control.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency gains within the Applications department.
- Implement best practices in application development, management, and deployment.
- Continuously seek ways to optimize system performance and enhance user experience.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience at the manager level (Director level preferred).
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Windows environments.
- Experience leading or managing technical team members.
- Scripting and automation expertise, particularly in C#.
- Smart Connect proficiency.
- Project management experience (Jira familiarity is a plus).
- ERP integration experience (this is a significant plus).
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
