Overall Purpose of Job
The Regional Medical Director (RMD) works as a part of the Medical Services department within the Government Medical Services business and is responsible for providing medical leadership and expertise to all projects. Specifically, the Regional Medical Director (US Border) is responsible for overseeing patient care standards at all sites and for all clinicians within the business, ensuring that clinical staff deliver the highest quality medical care and that all policies and procedures are in place and correct. The RMD (US Border) GMS is also responsible for assisting in the design of clinical solutions for new projects and proposals. The RMD (US Border) works directly with the Medical Director in performing the following:
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct oversight and coordination of clinical governance at all project locations, adhering to regional policies and procedures.
- Assists the MDR with all aspects of clinical governance across all assigned GMS programs.
- Provides medical direction and administration including, but not limited to, developing medical policies, protocols and procedures.
- Initiates, enables, and monitors quality improvement programs and initiatives.
- Reports incidents, accidents and near misses and works with GMS Team to formulate an action plan to resolve and prevent them and mitigate identified risks and hazards.
- Initiates and improves methodologies for collecting anonymised statistical data regarding clinical performance.
- Participates in physician leadership committees and training initiatives across the North American group of physicians and International SOS more broadly.
- Provides oversight of all processes dealing with disruptive or impaired clinicians.
- Partners with business development teams within Government Medical Services and other commercial staff as required to promote new business agendas and assists in solution design.
- Is the medical representative of GMS in front of clients and relevant contractors when the MDR is unavailable.
- Engages with all clients and relevant contractors to ensure that contracted medical services meet their requirements.
- Working with the clinical operations team ensures that mobilisation of new projects is coordinated and meets the required timelines.
- Regularly coordinates, attends, and directs practice meetings for medical leadership on sites as directed by the MDR.
Experience Required
- Minimum 5 years practice experience in an appropriate clinical speciality.
- Minimum of 5 years in a management position.
- Relevant experience in shelter operations, to include migrant shelters, is a distinct advantage.
- Relevant experience planning, deploying and managing remote/austere medical sites.
- Remains in good standing with appropriate professional regulatory body.
- U.S. Government medical background is a distinct advantage.
- Familiarity with US Government Agencies and policies for CBP, HHS, ICE and other immigration related agencies is a distinct advantage.
- Current or previous US security clearance is a distinct advantage.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is an advantage.
Education Required
- Medical Degree from a recognized academic institution from or out of US.
- Full registration and license to practice medicine in US.
- Current DEA certification.
