Built Ecology is WSP’s US buildings sustainability practice, providing a broad range of services including sustainability strategy and planning, goal setting and workshop facilitation, high-performance design assistance, complex building performance analysis, building certifications, energy and GHG master planning, and building performance verification. We work across a wide range of project types and scales, from master planning and district infrastructure to building design and construction, to ongoing performance and operations. Built Ecology has been directly responsible for driving many leading projects across the globe, including LEED Platinum buildings, Living Building Challenge and WELL projects, Net Zero energy and water projects, EcoDistricts, corporate green building programs, and decarbonization of large building portfolios. This Opportunity
WSP has an immediate need for a Lead Consultant with a specialization in Energy & Climate to join Built Ecology, WSP’s growing buildings sustainability practice. This position will/could work out of WSP's offices in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Arlington, VA or Denver, CO. The individual will grow and strengthen our team by securing, staffing, managing, and delivering complex projects and client-facing engagements. Candidates should be passionate about sustainability, exhibit technical knowledge in energy modeling and high performance building design, and demonstrate leadership skills and ability to deliver high‐quality products through appropriate time and priority management while leveraging resources and removing barriers and obstacles for the project team.

Your Impact
- Lead detailed energy modeling and building performance analysis activities to achieve established performance targets, LEED certification, code compliance, and other energy performance goals.
- Utilize energy modeling tools to complete carbon modeling and develop net zero carbon roadmaps.
- Interpret climate information and building use typologies to inform building design strategies.
- Perform other building analysis such as daylight or renewable energy studies.
- Write reports detailing analysis activities and design advice.
- Liaise internally to facilitate the achievement of project sustainability objectives.
- Review building documentation for the integration of high-performance design aspects.
- Provide LEED and other certifications strategy and advice, particularly around energy and IEQ aspects.
- Deliver high performance design analysis and project design advice of a high technical standard, integrated across architecture and building systems.
- Research new and existing technologies for application in the built environment with a focus on electrification, grid-interactive technologies, and district scale solutions.
- Coordinate with and present results and recommendations to the end client, user, and design team.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of analysis and project delivery standards, to ensure a high quality of work is consistently delivered by the team.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a building design or building science discipline that could include: Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Building Science or similar.
- 7-10+ years of energy modeling experience for high-performance projects, building certification (i.e. LEED, Passive House, net-zero, EnergyStar, etc.), and code compliance.
- Ability to independently read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with IECC and ASHRAE requirements and energy modeling protocols.
- Knowledge of mechanical system architecture and components.
- Experience with IES-VE, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus.
- LEED Accredited Professional.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certification.
- Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.
- Experience with parametric energy modeling, load calculations, carbon analysis, and district systems.
- Familiarity with Building Performance Standards and stretch codes focused on energy efficiency and electrification.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and building physics for data centers, hospitals, laboratories, advanced manufacturing, and battery energy storage systems.
- Proficient in Rhino and Grasshopper, C#, Python, and/or other programming languages.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $114,000 - $155,000.
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $107,000- 147,000.
